Full of red fruit framed by sage and rosemary. Dense and silky, lots of power without weight and with good acidity. Nice length too. But the 15% alcohol is noticeable on the back end and detracts slightly.

Blueberry, perfumed red rose, nutmeg, sweet spice, lively acidity, impeccable balance and fineness. From 1964 old vines, use a combination of 3000L and 5000L Slavonia oak.

Still young, so needs quite amount of time. But very well made, strong tannin, structure. Warm/strong alcohol because of hot weather. Berries, leather, blood, classic BDM. Next day, it goes quite smooth with elegant smells. Very good acidic balance. Wanna visit after 5 to 7 yrs. Must buy when I meet again.

Plum Market Wine Tasting. I thought this was the best wine of the night but it could use some more time to open-up/develop further - although I’m sure a decent decant would have helped as well. Dark ruby fruit - dark cherry, blackberry, currants, and a little plum. Smooth mid-palate with solid depth/concentration but again it could use some more time to open-up/develop further. Nice flavors of cassis, cocoa, some spice/licorice, and a little graphite component. Fairly long finish. I personally don’t see the 97 rating from WA even with more time but hopefully more time proves me wrong. The 95 rating from WS and Dunnuck appears to make more sense in a couple more years. According to WS, best from 2025 to 2048 which makes sense - give it a couple more years.
This really needs time to open. Quite tight. Very fresh and nice acidity really balances the 15% ABV, you don't feel it at all. It's all there but nothing mind blowing yet, might need more time.

Medium (+) Acidity Medium (+) Tannin High Alcohol Medium (+) Bodied Long Finish
Medium (+) Intensity - Raspberry, Red Cherry, Black Cherry, Red Plum, Black Plum, Blackberry, Tobacco, Smoke, Forest Floor, Mushroom, Vanilla, Soy Sauce, Cedar
Ripe red and black fruits, compliment with spiciness and earthiness, very expressive after breathing. The tannins are pretty grippy and you can feel the burn from that 15% alcohol, but it's offset by its fruitiness and acidity. Overall an exceptional Brunello with complexity, intensity and length, when you consider the price this is definitely a bang on the buck. Drink or hold.

Quality stuff here. Mushroom/earthy notes with dark cherry. Drinking well though probably will get better a few years out as the tannins continue to integrate.

Great wine, already drinking so well. I’m sure it will continue you improve, but I think it’s really elegant and pretty at its current stage. Really solid QPR.

A matter of taste - Day 2: *** Brief notes from wine fair, primarily for my own memory *** Glass: Stölzle Universal Wonderful texture, good balance, ripe high tannin, good structure and length. Beautiful fresh. 94+

Consumed over a short timeframe so perhaps this is affecting my score. The perfume, and the nuance was certainly lingering but it was definitely closed down and not showing the elements I was expecting. On the nose Stringent cherry dominated with herb and flower, palate was very tight with some violet and stone fruit. Quite shut down at this point.

Antonio Galloni Vinous 96 rated: “The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Paganelli Riserva from Il Poggione keeps you at the edge of your seat, with a gorgeous display of herbal-tinged black cherry, sweet white smoke, cedar and cloves. The textures are silky and polished, as this coasts effortlessly across a core of salty minerals and bright acids, taking on a decidedly savory, umami note. There’s simply so much going on and so much to like about the 2015 Riserva, as balsamic spice, hints of wild herbs and tobacco form up toward the close over a coating of classically fine tannin. Tasting the 2015 Riserva, you could easily forget that it hails from a ripe vintage. This needs five or more years to unwind and should then excel for well over a decade in our cellars. Tasted twice and over the course of two days.”
Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate 97 rated: “This single-vineyard Riserva delivers a generous, abundant and determined personality. This is Brunello with a capital B. The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli benefits from a warm and sun-soaked microclimate that is shielded from cold winter winds. You can taste the good health of the grapes thanks to those very direct aromas of black cherry, plum, tar, campfire ash and chalky mineral. The Paganelli vineyard is 12 hectares in size, with vines planted in 1964. The last time this wine was made was in 2012. Fruit from those old vines shape complex aromas, elegant tannins and bright freshness. Despite that handsome DNA, this is another new release from Il Poggione that will require more cellar age. I'd suggest drinking a bottle from this 40,000-bottle release after the 10-year mark. Drink 2024 to 2050.”

Terlato Cru Tasting (Ever - Chicago IL): Tasting, brief note. Even more firm than the 2016 regular cuvee, but also hinting more of its impending elegance and eventual charms. Very good+ potential, 2025 forward.

Big, rich Brunello, complex aromatics of cherry, spice, firm structure, should be fabulous on 5-10 years as it adds complexity
