Rich lush wine with a lot of fruit nicely balanced with Enough tannin to keep it together… Wants to just start leaning towards a Caymus style but thankfully stays just below that sweet cloying Note that caymus exhibits

Carter is always a go-to and never disappoints. The Hossfeld is deep and rich with big tannins and notes of dark raspberry, pencil shavings and hint of cedar and chocolate. Decanted for an hour and a half, this is a big beauty that you can drink now or hold for years to come.

One of the more restrained Carters I have had in recent years. Likely related to the vintage. I gave this two hours of decanting. Blackberry, cassis, and peony on the nose. Same fruit flavors follow on the palate with cinnamon and chocolate, finishing with some peppermint chocolate bark. Firm tannins. I would have guessed more cab than merlot, and would have been wrong.
90- minute decant. Very very deep magenta color. Blackberry, boysenberry, hydrangea, cinnamon-laden milk chocolate, and caramel macchiato. Smooth, dry palate, with good acidity. Firm, medium intensity tannins on the medium long+ finish.
What this lacks in power it makes up for in fun. Very easy drinker. It has the winemaker’s confectionery signature.

Nose: ripe blackberry, ripe dark cherry, ripe dark raspberry, pencil shavings, oak/cedar, bittersweet chocolate, fresh herbs (sage?); very expressive
Palate: blackberry, bramble, leather; long finish of black pepper, pencil shavings, oak, graphite, dried herbs; bone dry; full body; high tannins; high acidity
Overall thoughts: It just has way too much structure for me at the moment, although I'm sure it'll get better with age and maybe just a lot of air. Very expressive on the nose and palate, with a finish the keeps on going. This has some great potential, but way too young for me now. Good wine. 86 points.
Update: left some in a decanter in the fridge for 3 hours, served at about 60 degrees. Way better. Much more plush mouthfeel. Acidity is integrated and seemingly lower. Still a lot of tannins, but they are more round. Pretty great wine, but still too young in my opinion. 90 points.

Pnp, opened up after 30 minutes. Medium to full bodied, red berries, black currant cassis, 15 second finish. I usually wait 5 years before popping these Napa gems but was pleased I didn't!

I was largely underwhelmed by what should have been a more exciting blend. This rendition was balanced, and full bodied without over extraction, but suffered from a lack of complexity and nuance. Dusty cocoa without a ton of fruit at this stage, or at least obscured by oak notes. I would suggest to hold and see if it comes together in time

Not quite as good as the Fortuna but still pretty nice. Had an interesting chocolate note. Solid fruit and pretty open.

Excellent -- merlot-based -- Pomerol-like -- no hard edges

1 hour slow ox. This is a gem. Rich dark fruit, mild tannins, full bodied and right in our wheelhouse again.
