Decanted for 3 hrs. Beautiful now, and probably would hold steady for another 5 years, judging from the colour and flavours. Elegant, well balanced with good length.

Good nose. Aromatic and forward. Notes of camphor, raspberry, and oak. More red fruits, slightly acidic on palate. Label indicated 14.5% with heat at finish. Seems monolithic, lack structure and complexity. Better on the nose than on the palate. Nowhere as good as last tasted 5 years ago, a disappointment. I have such high hope for Altare wines. Worse on 2nd day, very acidic, leftover down the drain. 88-91 pts.

Kemp's 65th including some 1945 wines.: I liked this wine but found it quite cab like. I think this is a Nebbiolo/Barbera blend. It was ripe and very modern. It had plenty of dark cherry flavors. Some complexity. Very tasty. Perhaps no sense of place, but I enjoyed it.

A bit disappointing on day one. It is like the Barbera fruit has receded somewhat, but that the nebbiolo dit not manage to completely fill in the gap in the midpalate. Don't get me wrong, this is excellent stuff, but I expected a bit more poetry from Altare. Richer, creamier and more balanced on day two (kept in fridge). Lots of blueberry, spices, no roses. Medium finish. I am really wondering whether this will actually benefit from further ageing. Only time will tell. Glad I have a couple of bottles left, but would not purchase more at that price.

At its peak now, tannins have faded and softened, rose petals dominate the palate. Nice drinking blend.

Modern, would not pin this down as barbera/nebbiolo. Extremely well made though. long

Drinking fantastic right now. Perfect balance between tannin and fruit, with a really sexy mouthfeel.
