  • Retail $30. Big. Ass. Bottle. 44% Shiraz/Syrah, 30% Carménère, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Mourvèdre and Malbec, Petit Verdot, Garnacha, Tempranillo. OK, I am about to blow a gasket. The back label of this wine states "Because we care" above six graphics that indicate (I assume, since I did not take the time to examine any further) that the producer "cares" about sustainability or organic production, or the freaking planet. That would all be great in my book if this bottle DID NOT WEIGH SO FREAKING MUCH. I care about the planet, the producers of this wine want us to believe they do, too. Then WHY in the name of (fill in the name of whatever god you worship), is this bottle so freaking HEAVY?? It is well beyond time that we hold producers responsible. You want to claim that you are organic/sustainable/biodynamic? Then use a responsible freaking bottle, rabbit-bottom! The wine? Excellent. But I am way too fired up to talk any more about it.

  • Wines of Chile - Sustainability By The Glass: Nearly opaque red cherry color with black currant, black cherry, strawberry leather, pink peppercorns, vanilla, flint and a hint of mint aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and velvety tannins. It shows tart black currant, ripe black cherry, macerated blueberry, vanilla flavors with an appealing mix of dried herb and peppery savoriness. Blend of 42% Syrah, 39% Carmenere with dollops of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Malbec, Carignan, Tempranillo and Mourvedre. 14.4% abv| SRP - $35

A pioneer in Chile, Emiliana is one of the world’s largest producers of organic and biodynamic wines in the world. Coyam comes from a vineyard on granite-based soils in Colchaga’s coastal mountain range. All the fruit is own-rooted and is a massal (field) selection of different varieties, except for the Syrah, which is a specific clone.

Sustainability Pillar: Installation and support for organic gardens in local schools in 50% of the communications Emiliana operates in (goal: 100%). Also has 91 organic vegetable gardens for is employees, with many participating in collective growing to provide healthy food for their families.

Clean. Medium(+) intensity a touch funky with aromas of red currant eucalyptus tobacco capsicum and violet.

Medium(+) finish. Very good. Drink now suitable for further. Ripe and racy with lingering grippy fresh finish. Carmenere really shows. Drinking nicely now but needs lots of air. Can go 10 years easily.

  • Always a QPR performing beast. No formal notes as we had a number of different wines that night. I remember the 95 point sticker looking ridiculous on the bottle though... Wish they didn't have that.

Consistently a great wine and crowd pleaser, this is a gold standard for me when it comes to quality Chilean wine at the right price.

  • Clean closure. Still quite purple with a narrow clear rim. Nose is meaty with dark fruit. Palate is a slightly confected blackcurrant with a softish tannin undertow. Lacking in acidity? Seamlessly integrated? No, not really - in truth slightly disjointed but a decent easy drinking wine although perhaps one could do slightly better at this price

  • Deep purple color. The nose shows deep plums and blackberries along with smoky earth, graphite, warm rocks, sweet pipe tobacco and some smoked meat tones. Deep and suave on the palate with nice grip and vibrant acidity – so fresh. Tart currants and black cherry fruit, laced well with earth, iron, minerals, spicy pepper and pepperoni tones. Complex, deep but fresh, this is beautiful and should improve nicely over the next few years. 42% Syrah, 39% Carmenere with Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Malbec, Carignan, Tempranillo and Mourvedre.

  • Round, lush, precise and smooth at the same time. This is a "Gaumenschmeichler" and the next glass is simply irresistible, again and again.
Tobacco, chili peppers (soft and sweet), blueberry and minty. This is gorgeous and delivers some really enticing rose patels in the finish. What a treat!

  • Needs more time as the tanins are still quite nicely prominent. Lingering fruit.

  • The wine was deep purple at the core and slightly lighter at the rim. There was no sediment and the viscosity was medium. Alcohol was 14 %.
The wine was in good shape and there were aromas of strawberries, basil and thyme.
On the palate the wine was high acid and medium tannin and alcohol. i tasted sour cherries, smoke, vanilla and anise. This wine was not well balanced as the acid was much too high. This wine needs to be paired with rich high fat foods.
This wine was not to my liking but may improve over several years.

  • 42% Syrah, 39% Carmenere, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Grenache, 3% Malbec, 3% Carignan, 1% Tempranillo, 1% Mourvedre. The nose is complex but features ripe dark berry fruit, a touch of earthiness, some savory herbs and tomato leaf, coffee and vanilla. On the palate there’s ripe berry fruit, medium acidity giving it just enough freshness, with a savory streak and silky texture. No heat like I’ve experienced in previous vintages. It’s a good representative of Colchagua’s 2 best grapes: Carmenere and Syrah. Although this remains on the modern side, it’s the most elegant and pure version of Coyam I’ve had. In the past, I've found the oak and alcohol a bit too much. This should have a lot of fans.
