Very pleasantly surprised. Drinking beautifully. Wasn't expecting much. Great soft fruit. Raspberry and cherry very pronounced, with a full mouthfeel and nice acid balance. I detect no senility in this wine. No hurry at all. Bummed I have no more. [Note: after an hour or so, it got a little flabby, so drink up after opening.]

2002 Williams Selyem Precious Mountain Vineyard PN. Last of our bottles, the last one of these we opened was back in 2013. Still sweeter overall, both in nose and mouth, than I prefer, but less so than 6 years ago, with none of the burnt sugar aroma I previously detected. Reminiscent of a hard cherry candy, with some cola and clove spice notes added in, it’s a perfectly enjoyable bottle, but one that confirms for me that 2002 was probably not the best of years for this, one of our favorite PN producers.

Past the plateau. But not bad. My 2002 burgundies for 1/2 the cost on release are just singing and this is over the hill. If the Sonoma coast is a cool climate why does it have 14.2% alcohol. I stopped buying this wine long ago, I am not sure why anyone still does.

Concentrated, ripe, dark fruit, and a bit sweeter (burnt sugar?) than I had hoped; not much finesse or complexity; rich feeling but then finished with a little heat. With time in glass and food, it was better. 2002 has not proved a great year for W-S, and this was no exception.

had a glass after opening, it was fine. Vacu sealed.
Next day.. Full, tart, spicy cherries. quite full, but not cloying. new world for sure, but has complexity. finishes with spices and some faint hints of anise. The prevalent note is the tart cherry, but the subtler notes are there making this wine tasty and complex.
This is on the bigger side of pinot, but for what it is, it is good. Give it a lot of air.

Spicy black cherry on nose along with milk chocolate, clove and nutmeg. Very ripe concentrated fruit flavors, mostly red and black cherry. Good spice on palate with big tannins coming through from middle to end. Quite impressive fruit flavors, I just wish the heat were less overt on finish.

MUCH better after being open 24 hours.Moderately dark carmine/garnet rim. Bouquet of asian spices and tart fruits SOARS from the glass. Very mouth-filling with a moderate-to full bodied mid-palate and long finish (almost a minute.) Forest floor, rhubarb, and almost sweet red fruits fill your mouth. Very mild mature tannins are totally obscurred by overhwhelming complex fruit. I gave this bottle an 81 when I opened it yesterday. It tastes fully mature (to my palate) but decant it several hours before drinking or you'll be disappointed...a kind of odd phenomenon.

Really funky nose of ripe dark cherries, ferrous minerals and mocha. Decadent cherry-cola and mocha flavors that are interesting but far from classic Pinot Noir. Finishes rich but alcoholic with a nice ferrous mineral note. It will still age and evolve but I can't say I go for the style and it was blown away by the '99 Dujac Gevrey Combottes drunk alongside.

Hard for me to believe. I have had these bottles in my cellar since release, so no storage situation. This bottle was toady materized. Awful. I have no idea where this came from, but have one more bottle I will test to see if it's the bottle or the wine. What a disappointment. I did not even bring a backup to the restaurant which I always do.

This wine was a fail for me, which was disappointing, as I think I helped Karen buy this through my allocation a few years back. Smells soapy with a presence of VA and oak. Soft with blue fruit, ripe and finishes sweet. A very disappointing wine for me, given the producer, the fruit source and the price.

Dark tarry fruit, pine needle, smoke. Velvety mouthfeel and smooth on the finish. Much better integrated than two years ago but lacking personality and energy. Perhaps a closed phase?

Enthralling nose of wild black raspberry, strawberry, tar and campfire smoke with a touch of nettle and mocha. The palate beautifully balances plushness and precision with its layers of red and black fruits, dandelion and burdock, and a touch of mint. The finish has excellent persistence with just a little tannin remaining and a pleasing edge of citrus. I think another two years will open the finish a little more and should help to further integrate the oak.

Still very nice. Good fresh fruit with medium body. No need to hurry to drink, though it probably will not get better.

The Precious Mountain PN has always been a disappointment. Opened it and decanted for one hour nothing flawed but just not my favorite WS Pinot.
