Beautiful deep bright clear garnet color. Strong clay and bright raspberries on the nose. Sweet mulberries and plums on the attack followed by mixed blackberries, raspberries, and a slight white oak hint. Tasty, lingering finish. Soft, velvety texture.

I agree with other commentators who suggested decanting this wine. When I first opened it I definitely tasted forest floor and dark fruits. After an hour the fruits became raspberry and blackberry. Spicy with high, but balanced acidity and tannin's. Still have the forest floor and stem flavor but more integrated now with the fruits. To-nite I just had a small glass without food, it will be interesting to try tomorrow with the pork dish Im planning.Day 2-with slice of homemade white veggie pizza and one slice with tomato’s and smoky gouta cheese. Stem and forest floor tastes ap have smoothed out. Still high tannin, black tea with the raspberries.

Drinking very well now. A typical Saint Joseph. Powerful, though not particularly complex. Recommend letting it breathe in the bottle for 6-8 hours before enjoying it. Will hold up for a few more years

Clear deep ruby; clean medium plus nose of gingerbread, molasses, black licorice, cigar box and cassis; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; medium plus alcohol; medium body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of green pepper; medium plus finish; drink now or in a few years; a little disappointing - blinded as Ontario Cabernet Franc due to the thinness and greenness; better than our first bottle which was a little cooked

Decanted an hour. Bright ruby, fast legs, on 👃 quite muted but fresh cherries, bananas, wet forest floor. Dry, full body structure, grippy strong tannins with throat burning, fresh cherries finish.

Chave is a known name in the Rhone. A quality producer, there is no doubt. Offerrus is house partnership negociant operation, 80% is Chave' grapes. A couple months ago, I had the Chave, non- Offerrus Saint Joseph 2017( Sommelier recommended over Cote Rotie), seemingly different on the quality spectrum, and more structured, but still the same silky tannic elegance this offering produced. I've come to purchase Rhones and Spaniards in restaurants, as they have become a far better value ratio than other. (Sure, there's others. It's just become a thing, at a certain quality level)
Syrah 13.5% abv
This wine needed decanting, if only to open it up so as to sense it's capacities. It was a purplish-ruby colour of medium intensity. The nose was floral with violets, foreshadowing plum, pepper, earth and very prominent smoke. Once opened after an hour, gentle tannins emerged and a more lengthy finish( 45-60+ sec).
This was a good wine, of which I continue to wonder why I buy sooo much more Burgundy? I think I just forget just how fabulous all the best of the Rhones' really are. Note to self! Buy it. Drink it. Cellar a few, too.
I indeed enjoyed this, but liked the 100% Chave` bottle slightly more. I think it's the structure. Either way, this Chave is in the business of Awesome wine! Bravo
PS- Drink the Rainbow!!
Winemaker note - The vineyards used for Offerus are located in two distinct St. Joseph areas. The communities of Mauves, Tournon, and St. Jean de Muzols yield over 80% of the blend and are owned by Jean-Louis. These southern vineyard sites express tightly wound tannins, spice, and power. They add structure and depth to complete the harmony of Offerus. The remaining vineyards are located in more northerly communities around Serrières, and even these are farmed mainly by Jean-Louis, though he doesn’t own the vineyards. This soil produces wines which are more elegant with incredible purity, definition, and focus.

I have had this last year, and this bottle was less exuberant, maybe closing down a bit. Nevertheless this wine is typical St Joseph, with its open aromas of black fruits, silky and fruity mouthfeel, ending in a fresh and long finish. More structured than it was last year, needs decant. This blend is a fantastic value for everyday wine, enjoyable now if given air. No brainer.

This opaque crimson Syrah was decanted through a Vinturi aerator and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours. Offering aromas and flavors of blackberries, Bing cherries, cocoa, graphite and violets, it is a full-bodied red with fresh acidity, well-integrated alcohol (listed as 14.5%), silky tannins and well-proportioned wood. Dense in the middle, it proceeds to a lengthy, energetic finish. This well-crafted Saint-Joseph should provide plenty of pleasure throughout the remainder of the decade. If you choose to pop the cork at this point, give it at least an hour in decanter. Drink now-2030.

Clear deep purple; clean medium plus nose of blueberry jam, vanilla, wood, red cherry jam and baking spices; dry; high acidity; medium plus tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; medium plus flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of cocoa; medium finish; drink now; disappointing wine - blinded as a Zinfandel or Shiraz at half the price; fairly one dimensional and hot; delicious for quaffing but we expect more from Chave

This is overly ripe and a bit cloying. Very grapey / candied fruits, a bit sweet. Some acid and tannins but not enough to offset the ripeness here. Not sure if it’s the vintage or what but this didn’t land. Doubt it will improve much.

Powerful yet elegant, with loads of ripe black raspberry and black cherry up front, flanked by notes of black pepper, tar, smoke, and black olive. Lively acidity showcases the freshness throughout. A perennial favorite, and this might be the best vintage yet.

The Chave selection range is truly a fantastic value. In this hot year, the wine broad shoulder qualities are in superb balance with its freshness and lifted aftertaste. This has lots of sap and can be enjoyed right now. Very well made.

Dark ruby in the glass, popped and poured.
On the nose: silky dark fruit, a brininess shines through with wisps of peppercorns coming through.
On the palate: gentle tannins, lovely blueberries and blackberries come through, with quite a powerful and medium peppery finish.
Love the acidity, this holds itself on its own really well with the elegant texture. Would still be great to have with lamb or beef.
