  • 2020 Domaine Duroché Gevrey-Chambertin

On pop and pour this bottle exhibit more fruitiness and fullness from previous bottles, I just checked the lunar calendar, and today is flower day. The fruit is just so much more gorgeous, and intense. I can only encourage readers to try to open bottles on leaf day and fruit day to taste the difference. Or is it bottle variation ? Well just try ! This has no scientific rationale but on many occasions I felt the difference and wanted to share my experience.
Update: after a few hours of air, this becomes so pure, so red fruited, loosing the gorgeous 'fruit day' sap and turning into a much more complex, sneaking back on the buds limestone inflected mouthfeel, in a welter-gut punching way. Amazing how this wine changes over time, and packs depth of flavor, a hallmark of great wines. Punches well above its simple village level, bravo Pierre !

  • 2016 Roland Lavantureux Chablis Grand Cru Bougros

Bougros is the least qualitative grand cru of chablis to the exception of the Cote de Bougros, which is a hill just above the main road along the Serein River and which sits on well drained soils, and tends to be the best sector of Bougros (Fevre makes a special cuvee here) lending to the wnes airy and laser like qualities. The upper of Bougros is almost flat, while that part is close to Gd cru Preuse, it is less interesting than the cote de Bougros, and more rustic. In Chablis, more than anywhere else in Burgundy, the winemaker makes the difference and the Laventureux Bougros 16 displays airy scents with slightly herbal, iodine and citrus notes, then a bone dry and chiselled mouth follows, in a relatively monochrome and pebble infused finish. While this wine is qualitatively and technically all right, one should curb its enthousiasm after reading "grand cru" on the label, one should not expect more than a good 1er cru from the cote de Lechet.

  • 2021 Domaine Rougeot Bourgogne Blanc Les Grandes Gouttes

Delicious Bougogne Blanc form the bottom slope in Meursault. This is the cuvee without sulfur. The style is precise, airy and energetic, and an outstanding generic burgundy. Pierre Henri Rougeot pratices "biodynamie". Elegance, purity and depth are the key words. Very worth seeking out.
