  • Excellent indeed: black cherries, pepper, ripe and fresh, hints of graphite and road dust, pleasant green herbaceous notes. Almost no funky notes. Recommended .

  • Excellent, blue fruit, black pepper, no oak getting in the way. if the reduction of Syrah every seems offputtingly chemical, then this might be a great pivot. for its quality, well priced

  • This is my first exposure to Moric's higher-end Blaufränkischs and it's a noticeable step up from the "standard" bottlings. 30 minutes in a narrow decanter was necessary to remove the initial sour fruit. A mixture of sour and ripe fruit both red and black; black tea, graphite, and raw bell peppers lay underneath. The tannins are grippy but complement the nose well. This is definitely a deep, complex wine that deserves

Drinking this at its current stage in life is like drinking a high-quality villages Burg young—it's a wonderful experience but you wonder how much better as it evolves into stewed fruit and roasted peppers. No regrets though.

  • See my earlier note from 12-02-2022.

Same score but it's opened up nicely and didn't need as much air before shining!

  • 2017 moric reserve blaufrancisch
Really pretty. Walks the line of having depth but remaining feminine. Violet , black cherry. Little pyrazine. Gravel road. Tarragon leaf. Soft tannins. Lightly mineral essence. Really good right now.

  • Blood red; mulled fruit, brairy, iron tannate; big tannins, robust, with plenty of upfront fruit. Needs time to integrate fully.

  • Tightly wound and in a somewhat dry and difficult youthful phase. Medium bodied with engaging clove/cinnamon/pepper and some very pretty red fruit lurking behind the wall of tannin. Unfortunately this is rather too much like hard work at mo and I am not even considering opening another until at least 2025.

  • 100% organic Blaufränkisch sourced from older vines (25-55 yo) in the Neckenmarkt (80%) Lutzmannsburg (20%) vineyards. Fermented spontaneously in open-top oak fermentors, macerated with the skins for 3 weeks, aged in old, large oak casks ranging from 500-liter demi-muids to 1000-liter foudres. Bottled unfined and unfiltered with minimal SO2. 13% alcohol.

Only very slightly translucent blackish-red color with a youthful purplish hue. Expressive, characterful and subtly lifted nose with intense aromas of fresh cherries and ripe boysenberries, some bilberry tones, a little bit of brambly raspberry, light volatile nuances of nail polish and a fragrant touch of bitter almond oil. The wine is fresh, crunchy and quite intense on the palate with a medium body and dry flavors of ripe forest fruits, some tart lignonberries, light sappy herbal tones, a little bit of lifted VA, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a touch of crunchy redcurrant. The overall feel is high in acidity with very light and supple tannins. The finish is lively, dry and crunchy with flavors of tart lingonberries, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of sappy herbal spice, light crunchy notes red plums, a subtly acetic hint of VA and a touch of brambly raspberry.

A very tasty and wonderfully bright but also noticeably youthful and still a bit awkward Blaufränkisch. Even though this wine seemed to be showing a bit more ripeness and intensity than the Moric Blaufränksich 2018 that was tasted alongside, this wine really didn't seem to be showing any more weight or body. The goal of Moric seems to be in making wines that really don't become bigger or more "impressive", "impactful" or "dramatic" as they go up in quality, only wines that show more depth and intensity while retaining that freshness, liveliness and immense drinkability inherent in Moric wines. I'd say this wine isn't really showing its best yet, but calls for a few more years to come a bit better together. The price at which the wine retails here (45,12€), the wine feels rather pricey, but at the price the wine retails elsewhere (32,50€), it is a much better purchase - albeit still not really a bargain.

  • It spent about 2 hours in a decanter before the first glass and then drank it over 2-3 hours. Very deep red color with a bit of purple tint to it.

The most intense nose of red, black and Amarena cherry, blackberry, raspberry, sage, tarragon, forest floor and very, very subtle oak. Everything in beautiful symphony.

Palate was all about the very acidic red and black berries. Red and dark cherry, raspberry, blackberry, redcurrant and blackcurrant. A bit of mushroom and forest floor with subtle oak, herbalness and red meat. High acidity is the main focus but the tannins do not overpower even though it’s a young wine.

    Such a stunning wine!

  • Aaraber, Bern. PnP. Blue and black berries with a slightly herbaceous note, there is some oak but it does not dominate, medium acidity, medium+ bodied and long juicy finish. Beginning drinking window, may win an additional point within the next few years but I don't think it is for the very long storage, drink now or within the next 6 years, 89+.
