Opens with black cherry and raspberry, transitioning to notes of earth, vanillin, and scrub. Nice elegance here, things aren't too front loaded with fruit and oak. Nice acidity. Well made.

The wine looks light red in color with rather fast legs and no visible sediment in the bottle. The aromas I detect are black pepper, jam and chocolate. When tasting I would describe the flavors as dark fruits, plum, cherry and chocolate. The body is medium with a smooth texture, medium finish and medium acidity.

Tasted blind. Clear, pale garnet. Med+ red cherry, cranberry, red flowers, botanical herbs, mushrooms, stems, a hint of whole cluster fermentation, with well-integrated French oak spice. Dry, with med+ acidity, med tannins and med+ alcohol (13.4%). Med body, with med flavor intensity and length. Drinking well now, but likely to improve w/ further aging.
This is pretty clearly a moderate climate Pinot Noir. The more difficult call is whether it is from Burgundy (usually more subtle and earthier), Santa Lucia Highlands (usually more floral and candied), Sonoma or Oregon, which usually splits the middle between New and Old World. This has enough earthiness to be the latter.

Too young - needed an hour of air for some fruit to emerge, even by Peay’s lean standards. A tight and aesthetic pinot to be sure.
