  • Splash decant. Nearly opaque purple magenta color. Walnut, nutmeg, milk chocolate, and black currant on the youthful, oak dominated nose. Super smooth, tongue drying palate, with fine, lingering acidity. Firm, fine tannins on the long finish.

This is drinking very tight at the moment, so my score is very prospective. All the ‘19 single vineyard Carters are not yet in their drinking window, but will be terrific in a year or two with appropriate aeration.

  • This 2019 Carter Cellars Three Kings is an outstanding Cab, well crafted and a delight to drink right now and improve if allowed cellar time. I enjoy it now so l say, why wait? 96-97 Points.

  • Cherry and spice, touch of alcohol on the nose. Juicy and big on the palate, tons of complexity. Needs lots of time it’s showing closed at the moment

  • This is a wine that I have typically pass over the years but this 2019 is probably the best Three Kings since the 2016 vintage. A very solid Cab and very drinkable right now. 97+ Points.

  • Napa Fall 2021; 11/17/2021-11/21/2021 (Napa): Likely only reason to withhold more praise is due to placement in lineup next to Grand Daddy which overshadowed it... but not by much. Three Kings is also 100% clone 7 which seem to take a little longer to ramp up, so a little shy compared to his clone 4 brother on this day. Nonetheless, big floral bouquet, hits all corners on palate. Need to tuck this one a way for 3 or so years.

  • Delicious, ready to drink now and ironically should develop further to an even better place. Dark purple garnet color with excellent balance, extraction and energy. This is a big, full bodied Beckstoffer Cab that’s fruit forward and is by no means shy. Dark berries, blueberries, blackberries, ripe dark cherry, cream de cassis and some plum fruit. This wine is immediately approachable and cellar time should provided maturity and nuance to a Cab that is drinking extremely well in spite it’s youth. I’d call this Cab superb, maybe with better days ahead for this one. This is a very solid 97 Points.

  • Fifth of six wines at Carter. If you didn't buckle up before please put on your seat belt. This wine has a big floral nose, but you can definitely smell the alcohol on this one. Lots of black fruit on the palate with some spice. Big mouthfeel. Tannins are highly noticeable on this one, but there is good acidity. This one is definitely built to age.

  • The 2019 Carter 3 Kings Cab is very impressive, it’s a ‘Booming Wine’ right out of the gate, right now. I have not tasted one like this since 2016. There’s a lot going on with this vintage in the early stages, the color is a rich dark purple blue/ crimson with a compelling aromas nose. On the palate there's flavor are dark, ripe richness and power, yet the balanced flavors. Dark blueberry, blackberries, crème de cassis with a tad of plum with nice extraction and mouth feel, clearly a fruit forward profile. Showing slightly better than last time, this could turn out to be the the best 3 Kings I’ve experienced to date. A very impressive wine, but so is the whole lineup of Carter’s for 2019.

  • Carter Lineup (Envy Wines): 6th wine of the tasting and #6 of 8 for score. Shut down [sad face]. The acidity and tannins were the star of this wine. There was still some great fruit there but you can tell the wine entered a phase where it felt a bit disjointed and a bit off. That being said, this was still better than the first two wines. Given the pedigree of the Carter wines, I would not hesitate to buy any their wines as they are all good. At this point, it becomes a budget question for me and deciding which wines to go in on. NR

  • Another early blooming wine, strutting it’s stuff showing me nicely in the early stages. Ripe, dark berry fruits black and blueberry, crème de cassis, with nice extraction and lovely mouth feel. The 2019 Carter’s Cabs thus far are phenomenal wines.
