  • Seriously dark purple in color. Very floral nose with a whiff of alcohol. Ripe fruits and mouth watering acidity. Still tannins on mid-palate but approachable. Long and complex, sadly also some heat at finish with ABV 15% but likely higher, one for the CDP fans. Oaks still lingering at backend. Thick with dark chocolate finish, big big wine.

  • Difficult to believe this wine is Barbera! Rich and ripe but with good acidity. Has definitrly developed from the wine we tried in 2011 (Papies 92) but also we believe it lost some of its magic. Don't get us wrong this was a very nice wine to drink but still we expected give the attention this received from Elio Altare that it would have been singing a lot louder. Good wine but not special in any way. 91

  • Très belle bouteille, fruitée, peut-être un peu trop massive en bouche, manque d’élégance et de complexité, peut-être qu’avec quelques années de plus ?

  • Started out big and primary, but that just slid away over a few hours and it the fruit began to show more and while it won't be confused for a traditional style barbera with great acidic backbone in the finish, it is quite nice and silky at the end of the evening even with no food to balance it.

  • Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Lush and extroverted aromas clearly showing ripe black cherry with licorice hints, all of which continued on to the palate. I frankly had lots of trouble identifying where this was from and the grape varietal. Those who thought it Piedmont were all still wrong...this is a great Barbera, not Nebbiolo. I liked this wine, others liked it a lot more, but it will be interesting to see if they like it as much knowing the actual varietal.

  • Not so made in Italy (The Papies, Elizabeth St, London): Decanted for 2 hours and the wine benefits from aeriation at this stage. The wine is very young and having tasted in the past 10-15yr old larigis this wine has amzing aging potential.
We boughtthe 04s along with 05s following a Dinners at J&B with Silvia Altare and she said the 04 is th more femine one of the larigis.

This is barbera like no other and its impressive what can be done even from a humble grape. Super dark purple red in colour, so dense. Very modern in style.Lush, deep layerd and elegant on the palate very vibrant and long. Has seen a lot of oak but the oak in this wine adds character rather than overpower it. Still suffers (like the galatrona we tried prior to this) of lack of complexity/texture on the palate as the level of new oak takes that away. Very much alive and this can last another15yrs. No typicity though. Definitely worth the price ( approx 45£) . 92.

  • colour: deep purple-blue. Nose quite intense, oak but also fruit. Taste elegant, concentrated and alcoholic. Should be drunk with food in order to balance. This vine doesn't show the typical 'finesse' of the producer, too much substance and alcohol. should last for several years from now.
