  • Popped and poured. Fully mature but still vigorous. Nicely balanced with lip smacking acidity. Bone dry. Oxidative style but it works. Lemon, pomelo, cut grass, a touch of marmalade.

  • 12% alcohol.

Deep golden yellow color with an amber core. Developed, sweet-toned and slightly wizened nose with aromas of honey, some applesauce, a little bit of beeswax, light mushroomy tones, a hint of oxidative nuttiness and a touch of autumnal leaves. The wine is medium-bodied, fresh and racy on the palate with mature, off-dry-to-medium-dry flavors of honey, chalk dust, some steely mineral tones, a little bit of apple peel bitterness and nuances of pithy grapefruit, light mushroomy notes suggesting development, a hint of barely ripe pineapple and a touch of sweet cream. The almost bracing acidity keeps the sweetness nicely at bay. The finish is long, crisp and steely with evolved flavors of steely minerality, some tart green apple, light honeyed tones, a little bit of unripe pineapple, tertiary hints of mushrooms and chopped nuts and a touch of dried stone fruits.

A crisp, fresh and quite precise Chenin Blanc with quite a bit of age. The wine might be a bit over the hill in the sense that the fruit might've lost some of the freshness and intensity over the years - or then it might just be very high yields that seem to be the hallmark of the 1992 vintage's bumper crop. Nevertheless, this is still drinking mighty well and although it might've performed even better a handful of years ago, this is still a thoroughly enjoyable, classic and balanced Vouvray. While perhaps not showing its best anymore, I can imagine this is still years away from falling apart and most likely this will continue to drink nicely for many more years. Drink now or in the near future. Seeing how this wine was purchased from an internet auction at 5€, the words "a steal" or "a bargain" don't even begin to describe the value here.

  • It’s nice, especially after a bit of oxygen.
But too much of oxidation that somehow overpower the global balance.

  • Interesting wine. Definitely needs food as there are some funky elements to this wine. With air it improved but I didn't care for the slight herbal notes here.

  • Drinking beautifully now. Lovely melange of peaches, honey, wax and smoke wrapped up in a silky sophisticated mid palate. Nice minerally nose and long finish.

  • Extremely enjoyable. Beautiful nose of slate, dried honey, nuttiness, and a hint of melon. Nice honey sweetness (not cloying at all) with an extremely long finish.

  • Showing beautifully - has that honey without sweetness taste that I love so much in older CB. Looking at the other notes, it seems like there's a lot of bottle variation with these.

  • Medium golden; mature nose; palate is mostly dry, fruit is gone, thin midpalate, past its prime. Would not recommend. 85-

  • Woah does that stink. Foul stranger in a dark alley notes Bill. Is it supposed to be this way?
