Either my palate has changed significantly or this wine has. Likely both. Too much alcohol and not enough finesse to garner much interest for me. In the right context, such as a backyard barbecue or a football game, it might be fine. But it’s just too big and boozy for dinner with the wife.

Very Pride in style as expected and big (15.5% on the label). This is still drinking well but on the downward slope and hard to predict how much longer this one has given the abundance of fruit and alcohol but lack of tannins and acidity.

Opened and poured, but this could have used a decant for at least an hour. Flavors of eucalyptus, honey, rosemary? and pepper. A bit heavy for my taste.

P n P at rest. Nice savory nose. Some meatiness. Still plenty of blue and black fruit. Drinking well now, seemed to have plenty of life in it. Drink or hold for short term.

Deep dark red with a bit of bricking. This took a few hours to open. Sweet red fruits with tar, and light pepper on the nose. First taste of soft, lush, red fruit that appears sweet because of medium acidity and integrated tannins. A nice finish that slowly fades away. This would be a crowd pleaser.

This one needs some air. It drank better the second night. I think this one will get better with age and settle down a bit.
Flavors...cola, black cherry, blueberry, hints of anise, oak, flint, and mild leather. The leather is more pronounced on the nose than the tongue. The wine is a little hotter than past vintages, but I think that will settle down over the next few years.
I'll let the other bottles in the cellar age a bit more.

Inky color. Smoky nose. Bright red fruit with a boatload of tannins. Surprisingly light body and a little disjointed. Difficult to evaluate, because it obviously need more time in the bottle.

Opened tight and did somewhat better during the evening but never blossomed. Pencil lead dominates the nose. Some black raspberry and dark fruits with strong tannin structure and more flint and cedar. A long but bitter finish. Not completely digging it tonight.

Decent enough with no discernable flaws. Fairly straightforward profile cooler weather syrah. Blue fruit, a touch of cherry with some meatiness and cigar box to finish. Tannins and oak well integrated. Not very complex or contemplative but far from a fruit bomb. Kind of stuck in the middle.

This was delightful. Smooth, creamy, with a bit of sweetness. It disappeared in an instant. Decanted for 4 hours. It was open for business, and singing with a smooth, well-made, and integrated voice. Wonderfully great.

After drinking an Auzzie Shiraz, I wanted to compare it to an American Syrah. This wine did not disappoint in the least. The wine had a great nose, and a very smooth and silky palate. I tasted butterscotch, vanilla, and some nice underlying fruit. I was surprised at how good this was. A nice way to end a fun evening with friends and send me off to dreamland.

Light oak, dark berries, blackberry, plum, hint of licorice and tobacco. This is an awesome syrah. Will only get better with time. Glad I have 2 more bottles

Rhone Rangers SF 2010: Touch of oak on the nose, quite nice fruit, not overripe, bit of tarry oak through the finish. Nice wine, would be better with less oak.

Opaque with a nose of dark red fruits, blackberry jam and spice with a bit of heat (popped and poured; probably unfair to the wine). On the palate, it's "very berry" with a spicy/acidic kick. Tannic and young, so I'll have to report after some aeration, but this is a very promising bottle, especially in a few years. Tasty and structured. Why does Pride not get more notice for these excellent wines?

Aromas of blueberry, raspberry, a touch of spice and vanilla. Very smooth on the palate with complexity that, while pleasant, is still a bit cloaked by youth. Nice finish. Will be better in 1-2 years.

Napa visit; 1/18/2008-1/20/2008 (Napa Valley, California): Tasted from barrel at Pride - seriously cool. Not rated, because I still can't tell where it's going. Many thanks to Jason for taking me around the caves and giving me a chance to try these in barrel. The syrah has a strong flavor, a deep, smoky, peppery wine. This is going to be delicious, and very intense - let's just say that I'm going to leap on my allocation.

Perfect Pride Syrah, aging gracefully, but time to drink, as I don't think this will get better.
