Surprisingly not too ripe at all, citrus, blue fruit, meaty, cherry, violet, vibrant, fresh, super energetic on the palate. Resolved, huge and mouthwatering. 94-95

This completely lived up to it's reputation. Decanted and served within 5 minutes, this was open, fragrant and delicious right away. Served initially on it's own and shortly followed by our mains at Churchill's which were beef short ribs for Howard and Kim, roast chicken for Kathy and rare prime rib beef for me. I can say the pairing for me was exquisite. The wine was translucent ruby, clear and with no sediment after decanting. Nose very cherry forward with spice and faint forest floor in the background. Palate was delicious cherry and mineral background. Probably the best burgundy I have had. Very Grand Cru despite being CSJ a premier cru. Highly recommended, can't imagine it improving from here but who knows.

I mean, a perfect bottle of this and it represented what the hype is all about with Rousseau. The nose on this was like cherry heaven in a barn and it fully delivered on the palate with gorgeous layers of decayed cherry fruit and just the right touch of barnyard earth. The finish had a perfect pitch of intensity and was incredibly complex with notes of minerals and red spices. Such an elegant, ethereal aged Burgundy. At The Grill, NYC

Ramonet 2015 Horizontal / Rousseau Older CSJ Vertical (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): In 01/95/89/83 vertical. Black cherry on nose and palate with some faint berry hints, well supported with lots of sweet and savory spice and subtle meat notes. Some faint earthy, truffle hints added another layer of complexity here. Great balance and length. An absolutely fantastic bottle purchased in 2013 from its original owner, so pristine provenance.
Friday Night Ramonet & Rousseau (RPM Steak - Chicago, IL): OMG. So intensely meaty and spicy with gorgeous, beaming black cherry aromas. Delicious with nuances of spice, meat and earth throughout. Energetic and pristinely balance. Long sweet and savory finish. Wow.

Served blind. Overshadowed by the wonderful 1990 next to it immediately for me. The nose shows coffee beans, espresso. On the palate a bit lean and angular but good smokey and meaty Gevrey notes are developing with more air. A very good wine in its own right but not among my favourites today.

A sharper and more soil-based character than the '99 served alongside. Of the earth, and yet another example of Rousseau's success in the vintage. 94-95

A beautiful bottle of wine drinking at its peak. Complex aromatics of musk, smoked meats. Forest floor and freshly tilled black earth. It full in the mouth, with lovely interplay between sweet and savoury elements. The finish is expansive and long.

2018 Villa d’Este Wine Symposium – Kelly, RJ, Justin and Kevin's excellent adventure; 11/7/2018-11/11/2018 (Villa D’este, Lake Como): Beautiful fully mature nose displaying candied red fruit, strawberry candy, raspberry soda, caramel, a hint of soy, raw button mushroom, sweet spices, cedar and earth. Fully integrated palate, finely layered shy red fruit, silky and fluid, medium acidity, earthy mineral and a long subtle candied red fruit driven finish with a hint of soy and earth at the end. This is an ideally kept fresh example. Really nice but not a “wow” wine and not worth the current price. Really generous for Dejan to bring it.

Deliciously complete. Engaging nose of smoke, rose petals, freshly grated ginger and berries. It is sweet and vinous on the palate, with nice interplay between flora, fruit and earth. There are no hard edges but it finishes with such clarity and is extremely long.

On the nose: A nice matured Burgundy with soil, wet leaf, mineral and meat singing to you. On the palate: Nice and smooth black berries, some raspberries, plum, animal eliment. Medium + finish

Just a beautiful bottle of mature Burgundy. It has a sweet perfume of earth, meat, forest floor, cinnamon and cloves. It gains even more perfume with air. The palate is vinous silk. It is full and gentle, with no hard edges and a finish that is precise but seamless. It fans out on the finish and has real sneaky persistence. Only mid-weight but cerebral and utterly engaging.

Accidental Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St Jacques Dinner (Quince - San Francisco CA): Popped and poured as a replacement bottle, this started with a restrained and musty character, then quickly expanded again and again until it was a worthy flight-mate for its 1991 counterpart in the next glass. This was more mature and therefore perhaps at its peak today, this showed a very balanced combination of mature black berries and plum, game, sauvage and braised meat spice. Very good now, certainly not as cellarworthy as the 1991, but after several hours the two converged in terms of style, even if the '91 remained more weighty and powerful.

Took about 30 min to open up, but when it did, it shined. Still very fresh with crushed red cherries. Fruit forward, but very well balanced. The silky and subtle texture stood out. It was the last wine of the night and I was driving, so I only had a small taste. I'd love to get another shot at it.

Rousseau dinner (The Ledbury, London): Softer than the preceding wines, both in texture and in flavour profile, but again a gorgeous combination of red fruit and spice, all in perfect balance

Rich medicinal cherry fruit. Has aged beautfully and shows gorgeous complexity on the finish with a hint of prunes. Rousseau's wines simply need a lot of time to show themselves.

Tasted single blind. Moderate red fruit with new oak spice hints on nose. Palate more nuanced and interesting, showing ripe, mature red and black cherry, emerging earthiness, and spice I'd associate with bœuf bourguignon. Moderate intensity on finish, this is probably right at its peak.

My #5, Group #3. Medium crimson. Forward tight aroma of red fruit, oak, and orange peel. Dusty. Nice round red fruit flavors with some spiciness. Good acidity with a long finish. Tasted better than it smelled. 4/05

Very nice. Overperformer for both CSJ relative to the grand crus, as well as the vintage.
