  • A wonderful expression of underbrush, dried mushrooms with a hint of peat moss and red fruit trying to sneak in through the back door. Lovely wine! Paired perfectly with chicken thighs in a porcini mushroom gravy.

  • november 2020
    good cork, bought on release
decanted for 30 min then put back into the bottle. enjoyed over 2 days

robe - showing slight age but holding well and in terms of Pinot, might be considered a little deeper than normal. very pretty
nose- off the bat, this showed really pretty with notes ripe cherries, a little forest leaves, says " aged burg" . quite expressive but not jumping from the glass. day two was prettier with very pure red / dark cherries. lovely nose of ripe fruit
palate - this ha medium good length and shows perfectly the vintages balance. dusty tannins, acidity holding up the spine and ripe fruit. not overdone, not overly ripe. crowd pleaser. this also seemed a little timid at the same time. i am still on the fence of starting to wake / will this improve and really show it's feathers. this was my only bottle. if i had more, i would wait another 2 or so but who knows how long the o5s will take to show all of their colors.

  • Very tasty and in its drinking window. Soft red fruits with some vanilla and minerality.

  • This one's all about finesse. Aromatically challenged, but very soft texture with sweet cherries, mushrooms, vanilla, and cranberries--all very subtle. Medium finish. I like this a lot, but it's hard to score this very high owing to its bashful nature. Should go 89, but my evil twin (whispering in my ear) is saying 90.

  • initially, quite tasty after a short time in the decanter. Then, a couple hours later, the flavors had faded. Not unpleasant at that point, but just not very interesting. Smooth.

  • PnP impressions: Smells fresh, lightly spiced and red fruited, a bit of a gamey and animal quality. Slightly grippy. Fairly robust on the palate. Finish is medium minus. After a 2 hour decant the nose is much less fruit and the animal and earth are out. Suspected TCA for a minute but I'll say no, given I didn't notice this at all out of bottle on that first small glass. Gave the wife a sniff and TCA wasn't her first impression either, but rather "earthy, mushroom". So I drink on! Palate mirrors the nose. Tannin softened from PnP. Texture is pretty plush mid palate. Can't find as much fruit as I'd like. Not worth the current price (or at least the 70 bucks I paid for this on a whim!). Paired nicely with crispy duck legs braised with vegetables. Overall, ok (ignoring price) but if I had more bottles I'd try to trade them away, bring them to dinners with people I don't really like, or just stare at them in the cellar with a disaproving look.

  • Like others have commented, this wine is not a show stopper... but it did show a better bouquet and palate after 4 hours in the decanter. From my first taste out of the bottle, I would have rated it 84, simply lacking fruit, punch, or anything interesting.

  • This wine has never been a show stopper but this is one dimensional and very angular. Not very good this time around. Muted nose and flavor profile almost non-existent.

  • Well, this has turned around from the awfulness of the bottle rmodak and I shared 5 years ago. A soft and inviting nose, maybe a bit polished for Pommard. Supple and round with ample body and hidden depth and power. This is forward and giving in spite of its reasonable structure, not in pejorative way, and has good presence without heaviness. Deeper pinot fruit, spice, good perfume, moss, and some earth in the background. It's still very primary but approachable and well built for a village wine. A very enjoyable, layered bottle of wine punching above its weight. I was one of the ones rmodak referred to as "others who were less kind" in 2008. I suspect it will be better in 2-3 years and last a lot longer (but hell what do I know, I hated this wine in 2008). Man, did I misjudge this in 2008. Well done.

  • Translucent garnet to the rim. Medium legs with subtle lingering seductive tears. Nose is dominated with dark black fruit, especially prunes and figs. A good deal of coffee and tobacco with mild cedar box on the nose. Very nice smooth mouth feel with sweetness contrasting the prunes and figs with spice notes on a spicy finish. Well integrated tannins. After some 10 minutes oak, vanilla and some barrique are expressed on the nose. The palate is now expressing sweet cherries. I'm going to allow this to open for a couple of hours and return before scoring.

  • Lovely wine, nose somewhat muted but nice fruit on the palate, well balanced with smooth tannins and acidity. Light fruit of cherries, strawberries, some mocha and chocolate. Medium legs and color. Medium palate as well. This wine needs a solid 2-3 hours and possible decanting. I believe the wine is still too young.

  • Boring wine and quite dissapointing bearing the name and the price tag of approx. 60 USD in mind.
The nose is fairly good with notes of strawberry and red berries and a little bit of barnyard (hay and straw) but not nearly enough to be called a Pommard or even a Volnay. To me it resembled more of a Rully or a Monthélie with this one-dimensioned and simple fresh style.

  • Much brighter than the Girardin from the same vintage and vineyard. Starts with bright cherries and less rustic than I would have expected. Gave it a good hour in the decanter, but this could use more time in bottle as it was just hitting its stride in hour 2.

  • Nice wine, but a bit closed. The aggressive tannins and acidity in this young wine don't mask the pretty flavors and classic Pommard profile. A bit rustic, a bit hard, but charming. Nice red fruits and strong minerality. Not much on the nose at this point, nor much depth. Opened up substantially as the night progressed and will improve.

  • Burgundy Corner (Wine Exchange - Orange, CA): Deep red purple core with a nice dark toned nose showing notes of licorice, baking spice, and boysenberry. This seems much more closed on the palate with ample acidity, some subtle red fruit, and ruby grapefruit on the finish. Could definitely use some time, hopefully this gains a little fruit density with age. 90+?

  • Drank with the 06 SI Momtazi and served blind. Nice contrast but pretty easy to pick um so I can’t really say it was blind. As expected, this is more fruited and feminine than the Momtazi Both wines were a bit hollow in the mid-palate but it worked. This had lots of fruit, middle acid nice tannin. More flashy at the start but then starts to clamp down and go more hollow.

  • CSCA: Aromatic, juicy berries, slight mineral and spice nose; ripe juicy cherrry, sweet straw. and rasp.; very nice, intense mth, tons of vibrant a’s and fruit; med. nice t’s; good fin. This is really compact, will age very well. Good fruit driven villages wine.

  • Perplexing wine. The first impression is of cherry cough syrup, followed by black cherry, tar, violets and leather. The finish is very tannic, high acid and comes across as a bit hot. My first thought was young Barolo. I am hoping this wine just needs time, because it did seem to improve in the glass. My score reflects the potential, given that the wine was not decanted and did get better. I was kinder than the other tasters.
