Lost in the cellar for... a little while. Was surprised at how good it still was. Still had some dark fruit coming through, light smoke, some notes of sage, and plenty of texture.

Bland start;nice finish. Taste is blunted.Watery. Royal purple. Disappointing especially with the reviews for the vineyard and the hype about the Tool drummer owning a stake. For Arizona, this is at least a notch above wines from Kansas. The 87 is a gift.
The first night this was a bit wild. Two nights later we revisited it and found it had settled down and was good. Would be a great buy at sub $20, but over-priced. The first night my previous notes and rating still stand, but after it opened it would gain 2-3 points in nose and flavor/mouthfeel.

Contrary to other reviews, found it to have quite strong tannins. Hold that baby in your mouth for a while. Perfect pairing for an Argentinian restaurant - skirt steak & grilled veg. No, not a 90+ pt wine, but would buy again anytime with a red meat. Yum!

on the nose: twizler, eucalyptus, some sweetness, and red fruit. on the palate red fruit, kind of flat, doesn't seem to go anywhere, but not offensive. good tannins with a medium finish. for $20 not a good QPR.

Dark purple-red in color at the center, this thins dramatically at the rim, turning almost completely clear. The nose is restrained blackberry with a fair amount of smoke and a little touch of cedar. On the palate, this was a bit like the color: It starts fine, with decent fruit, but turning thin and hollow on the mid-palate. There is minimal tannin, but the structure it does have is sweet and smooth. The mouthfeel is very nice, and there is a good streak of acidity to give it some balance. The finish is medium and reasonably well balanced. Overall, though, this is just too simple. It is just blackberry juice, and not a whole lot else. An OK sipper to pair up with food, it is priced above that "daily drinker" level, making it a poor QPR. The names of the wine and vineyard are clever, but the wine is not nearly so much. Just a bit better than a commodity wine, if you have this, drink it now, and if you don't, I wouldn't bother.

Much better than the corked one we opened a couple weeks ago. Great black fruit, a little more tannic than I like, fruit seems to be from young vines. Drank it while watching 'Blood to Wine'. Way to go for one of your early versions of this wine Maynard.

Not too bad. I would consider this wine more of a daily drinker than one to hang on to. Black fruit comes out nicely, hints of tabacco with a slight smokey finish.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Merlot. Dark ruby color. Red berry nose with a touch of VA. Tastes of blackberry and violet. Sour cherry finish.

I have had two bottles of this and it is pretty good. It teeters on the oaky side, and is a little thin in structure but the taste is nice and overall this was very enjoyable.

Thanks to Kaggie97 on Ratebeer for this Maynard J. signed bottle! Have to say, I was very surprised by this wine. Solid oak and berry flavors that were not overly tight as I expected. Dark cherry notes, earth and black currant. Good finish and drank the bottle pretty quickly. Nice job.

50+4+10+15+6 Very deep red. Nose didn't want to give up much--some cassis, smoke, and black pepper. Black fruits, tobacco and tea with a lingering finish of oaky toast and sour black cherry smoke. Decent wine, I suspect a lot of Syrah in the blend. Probably at it's prime now and for the next year or so. Not the greatest QPR, wouldn't buy again unless I found a good deal. Note to self: Would definitely benefit from decanting.

{ST} From decanter, dark cherry red color with black hues. Pleasant medium depth nose of youthful jammy Polaner blackberry all fruit, briar, cinnamon, and oak. On the tongue juicy (but not jammy) flavors of black cherry, berries, earth, and smoke. Medium acid, and medium round tannins. Decent finish of berries, black currant, and oak. Overall this was pretty good. I would buy it if the price was 12-14, but not at the current retail of about 20.

I got this wine at Whole Foods and met its proprietor, the lead singer of Tool, Maynard James Keenan, which was a nice treat, as I am a huge fan of their music. The wine is an unknown red blend and seems to combine many varietals, though hard to tell which one dominates if any. Its rich, medium bodied, not huge on the tannins or oak, with earthy, fruit and smokey flavors. Not a wow type of wine. Over the years, I would expect them to improve on this offering, which coming from Arizona, is somewhat new and unproven as a winemaking region.

tight nose with a little stinkiness, milk chocolate, and stewed prunes. flavors of strawberry, wood and a little dirt. alcohol burn on the finish. was not overly impressed with this effort, especially for the price of $20.

Served as part of a tasting at K&L. Very light body that seemed a little watery; sweet blackberry liquor notes with a short citrus finish. Fair to Good.

Amazing, rich fruity bouquet with the syrah showing well, medium full body, solid finish, very little age on the rim, drinking very well still

One of the better Arizona wines. Cherry on the nose and salmon berry on the palate. Paired well with pizza.
