This wine straddles the fence between Excellent and Outstanding. If you're just drinking it w/o food, it would not rate above 88, but with food (especially pasta) this wine shines (90+). It pulls the flavors out of the food and complements them extremely well. Good buy.

Dark red color, starts to get bricky at rim. Seems mature. Very nice legs. Firm smell, a little closed (but bottle just opened) clear black berries, maybe a hint of blackcurrant (the Cabernet S) but clearly in the background. Smooth at the start, quite sweet and warm in the middle part, and a decent/long after taste. A very nice wine, mature now and will not improve significantly in the future. My last bottle - looking forward to the next glass.

Nice food wine....definitely Italian. A medium bodied wine with lots of "smokey" cherries and berries, some mineral, clove, pepper.....and very silky, just not a wow wine....at $20 bucks though, it's tastes like a much more expensive wine. 89 pts

me thinkum fruit forward, like a primitivo/zin with soft tannins and some smoke over cherry/berry fruit and drinkable with or without food; had with chili and guacamole which is a near deadly combo for any wine, but all was good.

Dark purple in color; I don't have much info on the varietal(s) in this wine but it tasted like a blend, maybe sangio and cab. There was dark fruit, toasty oak and spices on the nose that continued throughout. In all a good quality wine that may have received a better score except for the heavy-handed oak treatment. If the oak flavors subside (a possibility with further age) it might eventually score 90-91. It was balanced so further aging is not out of the question. [$ unknown; Drinking well now but short-term aging may improve it; a nice gift from the WIMLs)

Nose shows some Sangio typicity: red fruits, earth, a little green spice. Palate is big, oaky bruising and sweet. This was kind of out of balance and was not what I expecting. Better with food and came a bit more into balance over time.

[Il Cantinori] At first lacked complexity with berry and overwhelming oak. Improved with food, but lack the more notable qualities and richness of the previous taste. KAB preferred to Pomino. Neither were remarkable.

[Linguine c olives and red peppers] Great pairing; where did it all go. Deep blueberry color. Aromas of cherry, smoke, pepper, tobacco, and leather. Full-boidied still young with big tannins. On the palate, cherry liquor, tobacco, and mineral texture. Needs food; otherwise the tannins are a little overwhelming.

This seemed to be past its prime. It still had some body at opening but it went quickly. Drink up.

Nose of fruit (cherry), herbs and some spice. Strong palate, not fruit-forward with good acidity, nice balance.
