Opened at Octavium in HK. Slow-oxed and served blind.
This was a very pleasant surprise, and the vintage completely threw me off, as I guessed something younger. So many bottles of Lafon are affected by premox that I don't have much experience with their (slightly) older wines, but this proves that if you have a good one, it can definitely age!
Called Meursault from a good producer and was grateful to get it right. Beautiful buttery richness coming through, still fresh with lovely balancing acidity. Wonderful white Burg.
Hard to comment on upside, given so much bottle variation. However, I feel this particular one could have kept at this level for a while yet, and I'd love to revisit.

Buttery with pretty floral aromas and wet stones. No overt signs of oxidation beyond age appropriate. Soft and creamy oily texture with light tropical yellow fruits. Elegant, delicate in flavors, yet with serious weight. In a nice window, but time to drink. Opened for a COVID virtual tasting with Lea Lafon.

Yellow plums, brioche. Fruity, but still quite prominent tannins. Great structure and finish, but somewhat rough in the edges. Lacks some acidity. All in all - great wine, but no rush to drink really...

4th of 6, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, suave and slightly oily/lanolin, but even broader and now lacking mineral and any citric cut or zip....doesn't present as old and may tighten again but probably safer to drink up. Downgrade to F (17.5).

Big and burly, leaning toward california in style. Lots of caramel and honeysuckle, mouth watering acidity to boot. Not as fresh as the very best years but ready to show its stuff.

Very restrained tonight but the yellow fruit is pure and precise with balance. Like Roulot and Coche Dury, Lafon has made a balanced white in a ripe vintage.

2nd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, much stronger showing than last October's note, tightened nicely and becoming more expressive, if still v youthful, more to it than the Barre but not (yet) in such a good place! F+ (18).

Dinner at Jade Palace. I liked this. A tad advanced, and that probably accelerated the drinking window, but this was a really flashy and quite oppulent wine. Yellow gold, with lots of tropical fruit, peaches, mango. A touch oaked but nothing too obtrusive. Nutty and toffee like with extended time. Fleshy yellow fruit on the palate, with peaches, sweetened pineapple, butterscotch, milk custard. Good wine!

1st of 6, decanted 30 minutes - mid yellow, leggy; honeysuckle, flowers, trace of chalk; medium bodied, decent length and persistence, broad flavours, could do with tightening and a bit more zip, disappointing for Lafon at this stage, though very "charmant" and may yet come good as the underlying flavours are classy. A weak fine (17.5/20).

I was expecting the worst, but this was remarkably excellent.
Really fine line, great length and mouthfeel. Wonderful white burgundy, drinking really well, and youthful. The only drawback, is that this hasn't evolved much yet.

LUNCH @ CALLAS (The Hague): A fuller, broader impression than the Les Clos. More flavorful with ripe yellow fruits and some pleasing fatness. A classic Meursault Charmes.

This is a go to wine for me and seldom disappoints. This was the first time I have opened the 06 and it was very nice indeed. Lots of peach, pear, apricot as noted by others and a touch of lychee. Medium + body and a voluptuous moth feel make this a crowd pleaser. Will open one yearly and see how they develop.

This wine was simply sublime and one of my top white Burg experiences of the last year. This was first poured too cold and was all acid and sulphur. But as the wine warmed in the glass and opened up...BAM! The wine had not the tiniest hint of premox - it was so fresh with so much delicious lemon bite and acid...I surely would have guessed 2007 if this was served blind. With further time in the glass the wine develops just a hint of Meursault fatness - some fresh buttered corn - and gains even more volume in the mouth. But for the most part this wine is all business: puckering lemon, a huge vein of dry minerality, amazing saline quality, and an explosive and long finish. A wow, wow, wow wine!

95 pts

Decanted 3 hours. Very refined and focused, perhaps still a bit closed? This is more linear and elegant that I normally encounter with Lafon. Stony, mineral driven nose with freshly cut hay and sawdust. Medium body with good balance. Very persistant and long, but just a bit anonymous (fades away from memory when compared to a Coche Dury, Perrieres drunk last Thursday)
