  • Pleasant style of east drinking burgundy. Very young and straightforward. Fresh reddish ripe fruit

  • This is a great value for a village Volnay. Medium Ruby in color. Fresh youthful nose of black cherries, cranberries, violets, mint, lavender, vanilla. High acidity, medium+ bodied, medium+ tannin, medium+ finish, medium intensity, medium alcohol. Drank significantly better than the last bottle.

  • Impressive village level wine. Deep cherry on the nose, herbal leaning to a hint of eucalyptus, some cinnamon-ish spice as well, becoming a bit rose/floral with air. Smells velvety if that's possible. Lots of intrigue, both lively and deep, both juicy and serious, lots of layers centered on that dark cherry core. Gorgeous wine, especially with some time in the glass. Totally ready to go at this young age but I bet it will be better in a year or two or three (edit: and now I see similar notes below : ). Really delicious and great bang for the buck.

  • Ouvert deux heures à l’avance et c’était parfait

Le vin embaumait et s'est montré gourmand, fruité (rouge), épicé, avec une texture charmeuse. Très charmeur, il était magnifique avec la dinde. Un pur délice! 91 pts

  • Really delicious right when the cork is pulled. Clearly burgundy, very drinkable and pleasurable. I'm feeling like this wine is really good now and probably for a few years to come. Something to drink while you age your PC and GC....

90-91 pts

  • Classic Volnay, punching above it's price point. Red fruits and spices, with a lovely mouth feel. Other recent notes are spot on--nice drink at the moment but room for improvement as it continues to integrate.

  • Young but with potential. Lovely aromas. Started off quite fruit forward and concentrated, but by the second glass settled into an elegant expression of Pinot. Blend of black and red fruit, with a long finish and a bit of spice and minerality. A little grip added structure to the ample acidity. Perfectly fine to drink now but I expect this will age nicely over the next few years.

  • Obviously young but can certainly be enjoyed already with its clear red fruit and spices. Well-made,with a fine mineral balance and it will gain more complexity over time.

  • Over two nights. A good bit of reduction night one, but gone by the second night. Red-fruited with some spice on the back. Good purity of fruit and a nice texture. This is a really nice wine, very easy to drink. Drink now and over next 10-15 years.

  • This is the kind of discovery that makes you hesitate to post a tasting note because you'd prefer no one else knew about it. The last time this happened to me it was Heitz-Lochardet, when almost overnight the price for his whites more than doubled after I bought two cases of Chassagne-Montrachet 1er cru for a pittance in an auction. That's almost impossible today in the hyper-inflated world of Burgundy, or is it?

I hesitated to open it so early, but since this was my first bottle of Buffet I was eager to see what was going on. This has a lovely deep garnet color. The nose is absolutely beautiful and not at all reticent: deep alluring notes of ripe red berries and cherry, in an seductive style that feels totally Volnay and could quickly get me canceled if I go any further. The presentation is appropriately primary at this stage but it's oh so enticing. Harmonious, juicy and flat out delicious to drink, and while there's not much evidence of complexity except for a little spice on the finish (at least at this point) OMG it's hard to put the glass down. If I had to use one word to describe it I would say purity. Labeled 13.5% ABV which seems a challenge in today's "climate", and I'd guess this had to have been picked at the perfect moment.

Net, I'll be buying all the Buffet I can until I can't afford it any more. It could probably bury any pinot under $45 I've had in recent memory.
