2020 Burgundies I: Côte de Beaune from Bouchard: while not labelled as a monopole, this storied vineyard is an exclusive for Bouchard, and one the Domaine counts as one of its crown jewels.
dark ruby with medium body and with a small of whiff of alcohol in the glass. i took my time with this one and was rewarded by floral notes of rose and lavender and whiffs of blood orange peel and star anise enriching the red berries and dark fruit coming off the glass. it is medium bodied in the mouth and has a delightful gentle density with layers of bright and dark fruit suffused with a palpable minerality and accented by herbal and spicy notes. there is remarkable freshness and a firm but polished tannic backbone. long finish.
the balance in the wine gives it an early elegance that will most likely increase. and while the wine seems to be fairly approachable now, a handful of years of bottle age should help it shine.

On the palate was red berries and cranberries, with some time the red fruits transitions away from the cranberry notes. Other notes of tall grass in a pond, wet and shiny minerals, and a gentle spice on the tail end.

Needs time but this wine compared to other 2020 Bouchards tasted (Le Corton, Ancienne Les Caillerets, and Clos de la Mousse) has more freshness and acidity. The fruit has depth and there are layers of complexity that should integrate in time. Unlike the others the fruit here did not jump out as ripe or overpowering. Very nice!

2023 La Paulee Grand Tasting of 2020 Burgundy (Pier 60, New York): Medium ruby. Citrus and cherry. Rounder and sappier than the Clos de la Mousse. Excellent depth of subtle dark red fruit, less soil than the previous wine. Tannic finish. Another terrific year for this wine. Hold for at least 5 years.

Domaine Bouchard (K&L Wine Merchant - Redwood City): Nose of a slightly stronger neon red berries (in a good way), darker red floral notes, and a bit of stones and a running river.
