Bold aroma, with notes of banana, lemon, wet stone, saline, and cloves. The palate is also bold, with cinnamon and buttery notes. Very long finish. Falls just short of 94. We’ll see what more time brings…

Totally different than my last bottle - this one was way more oxidized and buttery and ripe.
Incredibly complex aroma of rich banana, vanilla and butter - smells just like bananas foster. Secondary notes of papaya, plantain, stone fruit and pineapple. Rich, dense, sweet tropical flavor with an herbal finish. Super concentrated with a long finish. Good structure.
This is a knockout wine but I’m backing this down to a 96 from my prior 98.

Aubert's 2020 Larry Hyde presents a nose of pear, citrus oil, and white flower. Medium bodied, rich, very slight phenolic edge. Good length to the spice-laden finish.

Overwhelming reductive nose. All sulphur. Writing this after trying to let it breath for 1/2 hour but no change. Not much better on the palate. I have never had this experience with an Aubert. I’m not going to rate it, but this one barely drinkable. Would be wary.
(Note: Later reached out to Aubert. They said I was tasting “reduction” but it shouldn’t be so prominent. No offer of a refund. Ha.)

This was delicious and drained quickly. Rich and somewhat heady, tropical fruits of papaya, vanilla extract, grilled pineapple and carmelized pear lead the way. The oak is integrated and it is fine to drink now. A sharp spine of acidity keeps the ripeness in balance.

Loads of meyer lemon and sweet stone fruits (peach, pear, nectarine, lime) with secondary notes of vanilla and herbs. Very long tangerine finish. Extremely complex and well balanced with a mineral edge. Thick, viscous, oily texture but also elegant with lots of finesse - an iron fist in a velvet glove.
Gave this an hour decant which was perfect. This going places, but it’s also damn tasty right now. Drink or hold.

Opened the bottle and let it rest for 45 minutes. Fabulous wine, coming along nicely. Wish I had more. Hints of pine and dusty minerals, fascinating and delicious.

Pear, lemon confit, white flower, and an appealing sea breeze note define the beautiful nose of the medium-full bodied 2020 Larry Hyde & Sons. Quite a bit of oak, as is typical for Aubert, but as is also typical for this producer the oak is integrated and balanced into a stellar wine, even today. More subtle and elegant than other vintages, finishing with a pleasing saline minerality. Good.

Amazing as before, really evolves over a few hours! I love pairing with a fresh salad of crisp heirloom tomato, lemon olive oil, light balsamic vinegar, and shichimi togarashi. Brings out the smoky lime character of this wine, which is fabulous.

Lime blossom, honeysuckle, ginger, orange marmalade and mineral for days. This is exacting and very focused, then during the long, flowing finish this becomes very expansive. Layered and percolating, with persistence and measure. There’s an almost oily texture. One to age for a long time and still quite attractive today. Even better on day two. Drink 2024 - 2036.

Decanted for 90 minutes, chilled to 55 degrees F or so. Used the same Zalto-style glass as prior Aubert tastings. Sharp, precise aroma profile of lemon/lime citrus, honeycomb, and oak. Sweet and tart mouthfeel, with Meyer lemon and apricot primary flavors plus lime zest and mineral aftertaste. Assertive, memorable, delicious. Will benefit from 2-3 more years of aging; acidity is quite strong now. I expect this wine to shine after 3-4 hours of air time at this point.

Very good wine, needs a couple years to mellow out. Great balance with an elegance that proves its worth. 92-93+
