This exceeded my expectations from a not very stellar vintage. It was medium+ bodied with expressive aromas on both nose and palate of griotte cherry, rose petal, tar and balsam with a certain roundness and depth, lively acidity and good backbone. With lamb stew in a tomato laced sauce and French beans, the balance was very good but the last glass after the food became a bit acidic. Very good though.

It's '95 Barolo, always good but hardly ever great. In the end, it's drinking beautifully with lots of caking tart cherry fruit, dried spice, cedar and earth. The acidity is in your face but welcome since there's still a remnant of tarry tannin. Great for drinking now, but don't see it improving much over time.

This wine showed up in my Drink Soon list with end date 2011...While not quite at the end of its useful life, the wine is beginning to brick on its edges. Nose is classic Barolo and there is still fruit on the attack...Drinking nicely now, especially with a juicy filet. However I am glad I'm not sitting on a case as I don't believe it evolves positively from here.

1995: Barolo Retrospective (i Trulli, NYC): The nose showed an initial burst of sour cranberry, which turned sweeter with air. As time passed in the glass, the cranberry turned to black cherry with a dusting of minerals, dark chocolate and menthol. On the palate, the Pajana lost momentum with its full-bodied, yet one dimensional showing of sour cherry and hints of holiday spice. The finish was staying with tart red fruits that clung to the palate.

not sure the fruit will outlast the tannins, as the tannic structure is still quite imposing on this wine. that said, the richness of the fruit at this moment made this wine so delicious. certainly one of the better 2005s i have had.

Translucent ruby color. Bright nose of tar and cherries - very good lift. More of the same on the palate, where the tannins have now begun to resolve, but the acid still provides good structure. Leans a bit towards the "modern" style of Barolo with the fruit emphasis, but definitely entering a good drinking window. Great with lamb chops.

This was pretty tight and tannic when first opened but after 4 hours in the decanter this blossomed very nicely. Classic nebbiolo color with little hint of age.Bright red fruits, rose and tar. Maybe even a little Bazooka B-gum. Medium bodied with lovely red fruits on the palate. A little sharp on the finish.

A big "wow". At first, tar, dark cherry, flowers on the nose. Flavors followed the smells, but thight and a little lean at first. After about 2 hours, this bloomed with plenty of aromatic energy in the mouth and plenty of ripe cherry fruit, tar, & maybe the slightest hint of wood. Just delicious, deep, and complex. Anytime in the next 10 years will be just fine for this wine.

This followed the '93 Tignanello...also a strong effort this eve...lovely bouquet, medium bodied, no need to rush through current inventory

Southern Westchester Piedmont Offline Feb 8 (Meritage in Scarsdale): Very tight. Menthol on the nose. Cedar, cherries, mushrooms. Tight but gradually opened to drink really well. Clearly has many more years to go. My WOTF.
