Birthday celebration wine. Paired with duck breast with red wine reduction sauce. Purchased a few years back at auction. Price sticker shows $19.99. :) Stood up for a week prior to opening and As-So'd the cork. Fill was excellent and cork in good shape. The wine showed it's age initially and was a bit funky and tired the first 30 minutes while it caught its breath and warmed up. It continued to improve over the next couple hours and showed well both on the nose and palate. The last glass was getting a bit tired at the 3 hour mark. It was a nice birth year treat for the birthday girl. This particular bottle could have held for another ~5 years.

Dinner; 1/18/2015-1/19/2015 (The Palace, Mission, SF): Wonderful nose with minerality and still great blackcurrant fruit; palate is full bodied, very nice ripe blackberry and blackcurrant fruit; medium-long finish. This is a superb, classical california cabernet. A superb wine. 94-96

Wonderful bordeaux weight, touch of herbaceousness and dust, oak and spice. Relatively delicate compared to this wine 10 years ago, but just as complex and delicious. Perfect with lamb.

The 1981 Red Rock Terrance is still a youthful wine, bursting from the glass with a distinctive bouquet of red fruit, white flowers and forest floor. On the palate the wine still boasts a firm core of crunchy fruit and fine tannins, making a refreshing, vibrant impression of considerable authority. Excellent.

This wine was not decanted, poured from the bottle straight into glass. Initially a lovely nose hanging on to a little ripe red fruit layered with dried raisin. Floral and spice, and everything nice but it just didn't evolve into the glass. The wine gave up the ghost early. This was the first wine poured in a phenomenal wine dinner with three flights of 4 glasses each of vintage Diamond Creek RRT and VH.

Hi-Time Cellars Tasting 11 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignons, pale red color in the glass, berry nose, lots of fruit, berry and butter on the nose, elegant taste, well balanced, needs time.

Bonham's and Butterfield Pre-auction tasting (San Francisco): Intoxicating nose, dusty red fruits; palate lacks a bit of fruit and is a little drying on the finish. Still shows hints of greatness, but maybe it's over the hill a bit? 88-89
