  • Holly cream of mushroom!!! This wine is tremendous. It bring some serious earth, moos forest floor and creamy oak. This crushes Sea Smoke but then again it's nothing like Sea Smoke, which I also adore. On the nose it has fresh raspberries and sea spray. In the mouth it starts with truffles and cream followed by firm earth and creamy oak. Finishes strong. I miss the days when I can great this wine for $40.

  • Decanted 2 hours and rebottled. Interesting to see how my impression of this wine has changed over the course of the 3 bottles i had, this being the last. This bottle was tremendous. Sour cherry and earthy notes on the nose. On the palate this shows a great balance between fruit and minerality. Smooth and elegant mouthfeel with dark cherry fruit with notes of forest floor, mushroom and smoke. There is a nice backbone of acidity which becomes more prominent on the mid palate and the long finish. Much more Burgundian than prior bottles. This was right up there among the best Pinots i have tasted. Outstanding wine. Wish i had more!

  • Decanted for 1 hour, rebottled and followed over about 4 hours. In my TN last year i said i was slightly disappointed with this wine considering all of the hype about Black Kite. This bottle set the record straight. It was outstanding. Aromatic but not huge nose of sour cherries with some earthy tones. Once again this wine showed that it is not really fruit driven. However, this bottle showed a great harmony of flavors. Mushroom, forest floor and a little spice mixed with dark cherry and a hint of vanilla. A little smokiness developed towards the end. Medium plus finish with smooth tannins. Did not pick up any heat at any stage. Although it is a little short on acidity it still feels smooth and fresh in the mouth with great texture. I think this wine has really come together and developed over the last year and is in a great place now. I have one bottle left which i will hold for another year.

  • This wine embodies everything I love about CA Pinot Noir; it has all the basic Burgundy profile with added CA sunshine! On the nose it explodes with raspberries and sour cherries, you'd think it's another fruit bomb. In the mouth mushroomy forest floor really comes out with wet rocks and plum flavors. The fruit is distinct but comes well after the earthy goodness. Finishes a bit hot and tannic. I think most new wine drinker will be put off by the finish but everything else about this wine is stellar.

At $50 it's pricey for a PN but really worth the spurge every once in a while. I'd buy more if I can find it in the $30 range.

Remember you don't drink the label.

  • Dark ruby color with dark cherry on the nose. Dark cherry on the palate with a little vanilla and earthiness. Medium bodied, fresh and quite smooth with a medium plus finish. This was more earth and mineral driven and less acidic than i was expecting. Very good but i couldn't help being just a little disappointed with this wine. Have a couple more which i will lay down until next year. Decanted 2 hours.

  • Dark red ruby robe with tart red fruit scents accentuated with spice and forest floor. Very tart on the palate with minerals, forest floor, spice and a slight hint of sweet rounded oak on the finish. Pretty good overall, though not a wine I anticipate will be very memorable as I've experienced this style so many times before. 89-90 pts.

  • Falltacular 2009 (Casa Murray - San Juan Capistrano, CA): I liked this much better than when I tasted it at Pinot Days. Complex notes of black cherries, raspberries, sandlewood, leather, and crushed minerals. A polished wine that is very lithe and elegant on the palate.

  • 14.7% alcohol. New winery for me. Thanks to Dave for introducing us. Distinctly California. Solid red color, clear at the rim of the glass. Black cherry and vanilla on the nose. In the mouth, velvety and round, with black cherry, earth, solid acidity, and a long, coffee-infused finish. B+

  • What a lovely Anderson Valley Pinot Noir; it is burgundian styled, fresh, clean, well balanced and complex. Creme fresh, white pepper, cranberry and cherry are all discernible flavors. It should easily last 5 years. Save a bottle for Thanksgivings to come.

  • Slightly hazy cherry color. Smell of cherries, vanilla, wet river stones, forest floor, wild mushrooms and graphite. Tasted of cherries, red currants, mushrooms, with great acidity. The tannins were firm, but not overwhelming. Heavy body, balanced by the ethereal aromas of cherries and graphite. On the finish, there was some more graphite with some lemon peel, brown sugar and a slight herbal quality. Very good, paired great with barbecued salmon with oranges.
