Ordered at an Italian restaurant (Napoli), mostly out of curiosity since the previous vintage was Wine Spectator's #1 wine of the year. It was pretty good, but definitely needed a decant. I knew it but we opted to pour from the bottle and just see it develop (with maniacal swirling) which it did! Initially closed, thin, and tart cherries, towards the end of the meal, it was more mouth-coating and a hint of blue fruits emerged. It was still cherries but riper.

Medium reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of violets & earthy/dusty notes, herbs, spices, sandalwood, minerals, orange rind & a slight hint of cedar. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blueberries & plums with spices, herbs & minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but it should develop further with additional aging. A wonderful Brunello which will only get better over time.

Mycket bra.

Good but not as juicy and approachable as the 2018. Cherry, leather, sandalwood, dried cranberries and some game. Needs longer to come around than we provided.

Benvenuto Brunello London (Lindley Hall, London): Some perfumed cherry depth, black tea, warming oak spice and eucalyptus. Depth to the cherry fruit, orange zest and a wave of fine tannins. Good bones but rather foursquare now.
