Rip roaring acidity to start, but it does integrate pretty quickly. The fruit is mineral rich, complex, and bright. However there’s a lactic note, and a sweet vanilla laced finish that detracts from the experience.

2016 Napa Cults Blind - and a few Champs and such for fun: A great showing, and one where the spiciness and energy are on full display. A lot of things going on here, with a slightly darker profile than I was expecting. The color was like a pale Rosé with shimmering gold highlights, with a textural raciness to match. This Goisses literally pops with a vibrant Pinot Noir piquancy that brings both breadth and excitement to the profile (85% Pinot, by the way – so no surprise there). Chiseled, focused, and all the things you’d want and expect from a young Champagne doing its best to impress you. Black cherry water, ginger, grilled lemon, chalk and granite, elderflower (I stole that from Philipponnant’s specs, but it is right on the money), and faint wood notes all pounce on the palate with suave Lincoln Lawyer determination. It’s not upsettingly powerful the way World War III might be a bit alarming, for example. Instead, this Goisses is just what the doctor (or in this case, me) ordered.
This vintage is partially vinified in wood barrels (47%) with no malo. Aged for 8 years sur lie. 4.2 g/L dosage.

Domaine visit. An excellent rendition of Clos de Goisses. Chiseled and precise with the generosity of the vineyard. Citrus elements with a lot of earthy, floral and spicy elements. Delineated, precise. High upside potential from here. 96-97+

Sharp acidity. Still youthful. Notes of grapefruit, lemon, apple, toast.

La Fête du Champagne Grand Tasting (Pier Sixty - New York NY): Walkaround tasting with the producers. Magnum. Bright and minerally with excellent depth and power. 85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay. On the leesy side. A highlight of the day.

4/26/2023 - MC2 Wines Likes this wine:
Bienvenue a Champagne; 4/20/2023-4/29/2023 (Les Crayeres, various restaurants, Les Avises and a many wonderful producers): This is classic and a bit brooding and almost a hint dark and yet so very fresh and interesting. The kindof wine that will last for a long time. It seems 2013 was our theme of the day as we had it in a few different spots. A vintage to keep an eye out for. Drinks quite nicely. Very classic styling.

During a walkabout event, no detailed tasting notes. Chiseled, generous, good acidity buggering the body. Top drawer.
