  • The perfume on this was the best I've had in a Barolo for as long as I can remember. Rose petals, lavender and dried wild flowers sprung forth from the glass. Bright red fruits with a sprinkle of spice brought extra vivacity to the nose and tempted you in for a sip.

On the palate, bright red fruits brought vibrancy while concentrated black fruits brought power. Despite the 32 month aging time, the barrel influence was not too imposing - spices, licorice and a hint of chocolate were delicately sprinkled atop the fruits. I was surprised how well integrated some of the first sips were already. Tannins were velvety and rounded - even more so than other La Morras I've had in recent memory.

Showed amazingly well as a PnP. Drank over two days with no signs of shutting down. With air, the tannins start to become more present. More sweetness emerges starting after a day of air. This wine likely has a decade or two to run before you start to see its peak, but I wouldn't mind drinking this young again.

  • [Tasting at Vietti, Castiglione] One of the two cru’s in the tasting. Medium intensity with cherry, rose petal, cranberry, spices, black cherry, raspberry, licorice. Velvety even at this age. Medium+ acidity, high tannins, long finish. 92-93++

Average vine age is 50 years. 32 months in barrique and big casks

  • A full and ripe nose of berry and plum. Opulent and sexy, full and layered. Quite chalky on the back-end.
