This is one of the finest estate bottles of pinot noir I have ever had from CA. After a solid decant and next-day consumption, the palate is velvet and savory, with solid medium weight fruit. Reminds me of the elusive 1er cru gevrey chambertin that got me into wine decades ago. A proper tasting note summary for this bottle deserves a new vocabulary that I do not currently possess. Don't let the initial opening flavors confuse you.... there is some deeper citrus that transforms into finer cinnamon and pepper after much air.... it is muuuuch better on second day which tells me there is a long life ahead of this one.

Retail $72. Of the 69 wines in the tasting, few of the wines I received excited me more than this Rochioli. On the day of the tasting, however, this was tighter than a...drum. I was getting very little on the nose and not much more on the palate. But. I could tell. This had the stuffing, it had the goods, but it slept through its alarm. On the following day, however, this beauty woke up and then some. Bright red fruit but also some earth and, curiously, some mocha on the nose. Yowza. Completely alive and vibrant on day two. The palate is rich, layered, fruity, and tart, and in near-perfect harmony. This. This is what I was expecting in the blind tasting, but it was nowhere to be found. On day 2? Oh, baby. This gets a whoa, a wow, and a Holy Cow. Outstanding. 95 Points.
Rhubarb pie, pine, sous bois, root beer, smoked meat and ground rock. Ultimately, this is a game-changer. A true strutting rock star. ‘21 in the RRV is looking to be legendary. Stunning. Builds endlessly and sends a serious message of palate.

Good vintage. Drought year. Lower yields, excellent fruit. Caramel, eucalyptus, mocha. 30% new oak.

The Sixth Annual Blind Tasting of American Pinot Noir (Houston, Texas): Retail $72. Medium dark, with darker fruit, even raspberry, earth, spice. Good fruit on the palate, but a tad flabby here until the finish. This might need some time to come together. Very Good. 89 Points.
