  • 4th of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, little changed from bottle last March, layered fruit flavours, some meat with hint of farmyard tending to red with hint of raspberry, fine drive, as ever more pleasure than technical mark, upside, 10+ years......so a perhaps mean F (17.5).

  • 3rd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, even nicer than last October's bottle, lovely freshness to the fruit, surprisingly complex, in some ways more attractive than CdlRoche 02 from Arlaud on night, plateau, no rush. F (17.5).

  • 2nd of 6, pnp, perfect cork and level, as noted in July if showing less material and concentration, bright acidity and decent length and complexity, as so often with Geantet the pleasure factor is higher than the technical mark, limited upside, no rush but I suspect not for the long haul. F (17.5).

  • 1st of 6, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level - dark but transparent ruby, browning rim; cherry, spice, sous bois, hint of farmyard, quite rich and complex; medium/full, good length, persistence and surprisingly concentrated for vintage, pure and refreshing, balanced, mature but possible upside, 8+ years. F (17.5) and even higher on pleasure!

  • A long lunch at Helen's place (Martinborough, NZ): Deep garnet colour. A bouquet of high toned red berries: raspberries, red cherries and red currants. On palate, quite overt, rich and ripe. Broad shouldered with heavy concentration and quite heavily extracted. It was no surprise the wine was a Geantet-Pansiot, it seemed in the house style. I guessed that this wine was a 2009 and thought it more backward than the 2008 Geantet-Pansiot. I'd give it another five years in the cellar.

  • Savoury red fruit. Quite open and fragrant. Acidic in its structure but also quite extracted and big fruit weight. Showing the house character of generous fruit and solid structure. Good poise. An 06 open for business with plenty of time to go.

  • Open - pot purri and other dried flowers. Holds together well. Light but complete.

  • This was interesting as the nose showed great promise - beautiful aromatics of ripe red fruits, a touch of asian spice & white pepper. The palate is dry & clean, medium acidity, not mouthwatering or bright necessarily, merely structural. Tannins are firm, a dark backbone of fruit frames brighter red flavors, a slightly briary finish, though not green or unripe in any way. Fresh, medium-bodied, not particularly complex or layered though quite pleasant. The impression is blocky, firm, not supple or silky, no elegance to speak of, solid but nothing special - right now. The aromatics are so promising but the mouth sort of under-delivers. It is possible that there will be more integration or development in the short term, beyond the foursquare, straightforward experience it is right now. It certainly has enough stuffing to support another 5 years.
