  • Medium ruby red in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & raspberries with overtones of garrigue & floral notes, earth/dusty, pepper, leather, herbs, anise, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, strawberries & plums with herbs, spices, cocoa, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but has the structure to continue further development with additional aging at which time it may merit a higher score (94+). Alc. is listed at 16% which may indicate the level of ripeness.

  • Charbonnière's 2020 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Spéciale Les Hautes Brusquières is an opaque ruby blend of 60% Grenache and 40% Syrah. Vinturi-decanted and serially tasted over the ensuing three hours, it delivers lots of ripe red and black fruit that is accented with exotic spices, Provençal herbs, licorice and walnuts. Full-bodied, fresh, proportionately oaked and with abundant fine-grained tannins that are already fully integrated, it adeptly hides its lofty 16% alcohol and stays solid on the layered mid-palate. The finish lingers on and on. Although youthful, this fruit-laden Châteauneuf is nothing short of hedonistic. Enjoy it over the next decade. Drink now-2033.
