I was also apprehensive about waiting so long to drink this but I am very pleased- the fruit is still balanced nicely and there is no sign that it is past its time.

I was a bit apprehensive, given the age of this bottle, but it is still very balanced for an older Cab, exhibiting great fruit, good color, and a lovely soft nose. Happy New Year!

A mystery wine since it wasn't showing up in our cellar, but I definitely pulled it from there. Opened, decanted and strained and then poured. These wines are always just awesome. Well aged. Great balance. Great structure. It's really enjoyable.

Zachys Holiday - Dec 2016 (Smith & Wollensky (48th & 3rd Ave)): Man I love this wine. It's much more old world in style than a lot of the other Calis that we had. Getting to that point where the fruit is there, but faded down and the leather and more savory notes are coming out too. It's definitely ready now and is starting to get to a point of needs to be drunk up, but will be hard to part with our last bottle.

Gosh I love this wine which was hands down WOTN for me (funny because it had some stiff competition). Bit more old world than new world style for a Napa. Lots of leather and cigar, but there's still plenty of fruit in this. I think the drinking window is still a bit on the conservative side - this was in an excellent place, but don't see it heading downhill too quickly. Will continue to keep eyes out for more.

Opened decanted and served immediately to celebrate some good news. This wine really needed a bit more time to stretch its legs than we gave it, but thankfully drank over the course of ~3 hours so that the later sips were showing more of the potential. This is a great wine having a good day. Not the best showing of it I've seen, but very enjoyable and I found myself pouring a second glass even when I thought I'd just do one.

Opened and decanted for about 30 minutes before drinking. Two different bottles which were separately decanted, but didn't see much bottle variation. This wine was lovely as always and overshadowed everything else that we drank. Very rich fruit but with the right acidity and counterbalance to make it delicious and not gloppy. Fabulous nose. And still going very strongly 21 years later.

Great wine and glad that we got some more of this. Wasn't quite up to the '07 Colgin Syrah that we had afterwards, but still very impressive in its own right. It's at exactly the right drinking point now and don't expect that time will yield much (although I do think has a few more years left in it). Wine is more earth and leather than fruit as most aged Napas are. Very well balanced. Very enjoyable.

Good fill; cork broke on extraction. Double decanted; heavy sediment. Six hours later: Dark garnet in color with bricking at the edges. Flowery nose of dark fruit and honeysuckle. Red cherries and raspberries on the medium-to-full bodied palate, well-balanced by acids and tannins. The lengthy finish is consistent with the initial taste. A beautiful wine that should be good for several more years. Wish this wasn't my last bottle.

A beautiful and pure bottle, featuring blue/black fruits, minerals, herbs and fully integrated oak. Full bodied, with a glycerined texture and long finish.

Almost restrained in comparison to the Livingstone Moffet, but it still wears heavy oak as a badge of pride. The vanilla here is joined by plum and cassis. Not bad, but if you want to spend $100 on a cab, I’d suggest the ’96 Pichon-Lalande, which is much deeper and more complex. It has the added benefit of being ageable.

HDH Pre-auction tasting (Chicago Athletic Club): Big kirsch nose. Very nice rich round forward fruit. A real surprise.
