From magnum. A bit of discolouration around the rim - still quite dark core. Ripe and quite sweet on the nose, notes of candied fruit, spices, sweet tobacco, smoke. On the palate really well balanced and smooth. Ripe but with good acidity, very spicy, good length. New world certainly, but different - lots of character. Drinking well. 91-93

Drank with prime rib. Dark fruit, cherries, and pencil box on the nose. Almost no tannins left on the palate. Cut the meat flavor and refreshed the palate with each sip. Good combination without being overpowering.

Although this is not your typical table wine from Chile with a flat out factory wine flavor, but it is not something that would amaze your palate either. There are small hints of Tobacco and Berries characters, soft tannins on the finish (which is expected for something that's been aged for 8 years and decanted it for 45-1hr), a good float of oak and a bit towards light rather than medium body. Solid dry Cab and not much fruitiness, but nothing special at all. Keep in mind that this is a Chile wine and the peak years usually doesn't last more than 5 years at most, so this might of passed it's peak time. For something under $10 bucks, it might deserve a higher rating just for it's value, but I paid $22.99 for it and it's really not worth it. If you want to impress someone with a nice bottle of wine for the evening, look else where; but it would make a great pairing with some red sauce pasta/steak as a "Table Wine".

Dark in color, plum and ceder on the nose, palate had some leather, decent length and a peppery finish OK for 15-20 but not something i would buy again

Very nice, time has treated this well and Molesworth's 2008 window is a touch premature - Dark, well concentrated with a nose of extreme plum, black fruit, cedar, tobacco and vanilla, well balanced, integrated, decent complexity, sweet, smooth on the palate with excellent length, very nice! (90 Points).

Juicy, easy drinking. Was perfect for our BBQ ribs. Smoky, oak with a nice mix of red/dark fruits, this was more balanced than I was expected and not overoaked. Full body with good structure and decent lenght.

Showing a slight colouring at the edge on a mahogany core. Solid intensity on the nose full of complexity. I was very impressed with the initial expression on the nose as it showed no greenness and layers of fruit, leather, and tobacco. The palate showed great structure and balance acidity with softening tannins from a few years in the bottle. Still a young wine that could go for 3-6 more years. I appreciated the fact that it wasn't a fruit bomb. It held a finesse that I look for in a Cab.

Nice mix of old and new world styles. Slightly gamey aromas with baking spices, cooked plums, vanilla, and eucalyptus. Light tannins on the palate. Some cedar and a peppery finish. This is a nice wine, but the flavors don't live up to the aromas.

Decanted for 2 hours as recommended rsazima below. Blackberry, bluberry nose. Mild fruit on the palate. I expected a lot of heat but the decanting must have softened it. Was pretty well balanced with a lot of acidity. Tannins were mild in this bottle.

VERY GOOD. VISUAL: M+ intensity, rubi, medium tears. NOSE: Black fruit, kirsh, cream, toast, herbal, M+ intensity, complexity and persistence. PALATE: Medium to full bodied, M+ intensity, acidity, alcohol and tannins. FINAL: Nice balance and finish (12s). 89 points.
REMEMBER: ALWAYS decant Casa Lapostolle Cuvée Alexandre red wines. They start very rough and without much aromas, but after 1h of aeration, they undergo a total transformation and show what they are really like: intense and very aromatic wines. Exactly the same with the 2004 Merlot.

On the first day, this was juicy and structured, with a decent core of briary cherry and cassis fruit, along with a dash of oak. On the second day, it tasted like watered-down coffee with a hint of red fruit. Even scoring it based on the first day only, it's merely a middling to above-average wine. The balance is a little out of whack, with some heat showing through. It's not bad for the price, but I'll be looking elsewhere from now on for a good Cab value.

Good deep purple color ( but without the smoke on the water) - - good mouth feel - nice black cherry vanilla - like black cherry swirl ice cream. Hint of oak but not too heavy. Some hints of blueberry, mace and that cherry vanilla. Touch of Dr. Pepper without the fizz. Nice finish where the tannins give you a little ooomph without being over-powering. Never been one for Chilean wines as they tend to be disjointed and one-dimensional. this one has some good character. Could mistake it for a sonoma county cabernet. and did I mention that the price is right - good QPR.

Great nose of black currants, blue berries and black berries. A bit of mint light toasty vanilla notes as well as cinnamon and clove. Thick and unctuous and mouth filling in the palate, chewy tannins that were not offensive but went perfect with steak. Excellent Value.

Decanted due to youth. Had a nice punch to it and balanced its fruit with some pepper and spice. Smoother than other Chileans from the same region. Alcohol came through from first taste to long smooth finish. Wonderful nose full of fruit and spice. This one left me wanting to try more after it had a chance to mature a bit.

As with the Merlots, Cuvee Alexandre is afew steps up from the regular. Very chocolatey, both on the nose and on the palate. Firm structure, however not quite as much as the Merlot. Nice black cherries, currant, smoke, and grilled meats. Good value too.

Think this was lightly corked though it didn't have the usual telltales. No fruit to speak of, astringent and a bit of funk.
