  • Was not sure how this wine would be drinking at this stage but it still had a good backbone of acidity and structure with no real off notes that you might expect for a 14 year old new world syrah. Probably not going to improve and may be on its downward arc but fruit was still present and drinking well.

  • This wine is going through an awkward stage, big on spices, fruits really muted. Maybe it will improve in a few years.

  • Still too young, and in need of some air right now. Nicely aromatic (herbal) along with some olive brine and plum on the nose. Fruit is nicely balanced with acidity, and the herbal/menthol note riding on top. This one just seems to need some time to develop more complexity.

  • Deep dark brooding wine that is showing a lot of oak right now, if the oak integrates it will good, but right now just O.K

  • Deep, inky, black-purple to purple rim. Decanted for two hours. Stunning, pure, Syrah nose of smoke, dark fruits, and pungent spice. This wine is at once dense and lifted in the palate, seemingly growing more aromatic, this fills my head. Gorgeous, pure Syrah, at a reasonable 14.2% alcohol.

  • I opened this up about 1 hour before serving,. Poured a little out, re-corked and shook the wine to release some trapped CO2. Took the cork out and let it rest. Deep purple in the color department. Big nose of black cherries, tar,and bacon. Blueberries and blackberries with chalk, tar and smoked meat. This is a big wine. After 2 hours, it starts opening up and softening a bit.

  • Wow! If you like big explosive fruit then this wine is for you though I must say it is a bit contained if compared to Pax’s Griffin’s Lair. On the nose it explodes with cherry pie fillings; you know cooked cherries and sugar. You can smell it when pouring the wine. Also hints of spearmint and freshly crushed black pepper.

In the mouth it’s just tart cherries and firm tannins. Alcohol is way too hot hot hot. This wine is obviously too young.

The finish lasts a respectable 60-80 seconds with tight tannins and raspberries citrus. I’d save this wine until 2010.
