  • Start to open up after 2.5 hours. Before it opened up, the nose has a distinct woody and old drawer smell. After a few hours in the decanter, it came around and I found it balanced and rich. nose is still distinct, but some smokiness, berries, pepper, and a bit funky. Full tanins, and long finish. Well made for a tough year!

  • 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot

Lighter orangish red, transparent, compact rim. Looks quite young and brilliant.

The strength of this wine is all in its bouquet. It screams Pauillac. Lots of fresh blackcurrant, red cherry, smoky tobacco leaves, gunpower, slight greenish stems, black pepper, with a little funkiness to keep it multidimensional.

Palate is still quite tannic but tannin is definitely fading. Medium body, dry. Again the same fruit profiles carry over. Noticeable pencil lead, graphite, rocky mineral characters. More of those fresh, leafy undertones. Finish is a little short (for a Lafite) which is in keeping with the vintage.

A 2007 Lafite is still a Lafite. This one is ready to go. Peaking right now after 15 years. Superb classic Pauillac that shines in a lesser year. It also has the stuffing to stay at the plateau for a while longer yet. Now - 2032.

  • Just had to open on this beautiful first Sunday in May 2020. Last bottle.

Classic aromatics of a left bank mature Pomeral. Where do I start ?
The wine has a sweetness amidst its left bank aromatics. Simply classic. On the palette it is a powerful wine with depth. I have read about the difficult vintage of2007 but I must say this is awesome. It is a standard and a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

  • Powerful wine. Lot of richness for the vintage. But still enough complexity and great finish.

  • This takes plenty of time to open, but the nose reveals a beautiful lead-pencil, cassis, thyme, coal nose. It's on the palate that this really pops, filling the mouth with lead pencil, rich currant and a sublime violet/lavender perfume which is quite a nice surprise because it's not seen on the nose. This is by no means fully mature and should not be consumed now; wait 5 or better yet 10 years.

  • Fully mature, this medium bodied, elegant, fresh, bright charmer serves up its tobacco, spicy, green leafy, cedarwood, plum and cherry nose without being asked twiced. Elegant, fresh and refined, there is a sweetness to the fruit, but without the depth you hope to find in a First Growth. Still, this shows good character, freshness and refinement. It is one of the wines of this difficult vintage. The wine was made from a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot.

  • Every 2007 cru classé - Part 1 (The Don, City of London): This really did stand out for its extra dimension - coal-ly palate, deeper than the others

  • Not the deepest colour - ruby core, a little fade at the rim; acetic on the palate - bad bottle. A shame.

  • Chateau visit, nice to taste a Lafite finally. This was very primary with a nice nose. Unyielding on the palate.

  • A toasty note almost caramel-like (typical of 2007), nicely perfumed red fruits alongside but this is no powerhouse; light in the mouth, pretty but not particularly memorable. Fine tannins - well made but I wouldn't pay the premium in this vintage. Good airline wine.

  • Deep garnet colour. Lifted nose showing aromas of cigar box, vanilla, cinnamon, clove, coffee, black olives, black currants and green bell pepper.

It is dry in the mouth with a fresh acidity. It has firm fine-grained tannins and a moderate alcohol. It is full-bodied with pronounced intensity flavours and a long finish.

It is an outstanding quality wine. Despite the conditions of the vintage it shows finesse and a very elegant and complex nose with notes provided by oak and bottle ageing. It is very persistent and it has a remarkable flavour concentration in balance with the acidity and tannic structure.

God lengde.

  • Tasted at the WINEBID.COM 20th anniversary NYC tasting.

Lost among the many wines is this fine example of the soil on the left bank. While too young to stand up tonight, the "terrior" was present

  • Chateau Lafite Rothschild - 20 year vertical blind tasting (Fribourg): Tasted blind. Medium garnet, evolved color. Expressive and open nose of dark fruit, pine, cherry but also with a bit of green vegetables. Soft and ripe on the palate, this is ready to drink and a lot of fun. As the Mouton RS 2007 next to it, the are more serious and longer wines than this but in terms of immediate appeal, the 07 did really well. This confirms my view of the 2007 vintage from many other occasion I tasted it. Of all recent lesser vintages, the 07 always had drinkability on its side. Group rank # 11/20. Readiness: Ready with a bit of decanting.

  • Yes, we know she is a baby, but, well, we believe, in general, the Bordeux 2007s are sipping nicely now. A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot. Opaque purple with a slightly clear rim...mysterious! 6+ hours breathing before we elegantly (we try) encountered aromas of sufficiently, ripe and currently vibrant dark fruits (good dose of candied-cherries) and over-roasted coffee. Late development of dark chocolate...nice. Feeling like splashing around the warm ocean water during Spring Break...silliness and happiness on steroids. Luscious, round, medium-bodied with currently too soft tannins (our preference) and, just like the nose, cherry-cherry. Relatively long, smokey finish. Ready to sip now, but we believe will evolve into a more mellow (feeling marshmallowy), super-salaciously sexy and tantalising tannin wine over the next 10 years. Pleased to have enough in the cellar to experience her graduation...PhD in Philosophy expected ;-) Still a baby, but oooweebaby!!!
