16yo Barbera, and although the fresh fruit is not longer present, this has aged with grace. The color is still dark, not giving away any hints of it’s age. On the nose there are licorice that are dominating, with a hint of roses beneath. I would have been straight to Nebbiolo, if this was served blind. The taste follows up the nose, and the wine is very much alive and singing thanks to a perfect balance between fruit and acidity. Very nice bottle of wine. Sadly my last, although this will not improve, rather the opposite.

From magnum. Sound cork. Transparent red. Unique aromas. Rounded and balanced, with acidity in check. In my judgement, still going strong, but not developing further.

Just over two years since I opened the last bottle; this should have been enjoyed years ago. There is some raspberry fruit left here, but not like in the past. No richness left. Not one for the cellar.

Gorgeous aromatics of blood plum, cherries, freshly tilled earth, flowers and iron. Waves of sweet, dark fruits lap over a mineral/iron base and the tannins are sugar coated and spherical. It is a wine that has stacked on plenty of mid-palate pud over the past 12 months. It has a lot of Serralunga about it and is a delicious example of the variety.

medium deep ruby with a fine nose of dark cherry, some perfume, rhubarb, asian spices, tar, stony fruits, and some bay leaves. Nice clarity and depth here. medium bodied and very well balanced. This has settled in nicely since bottling. Good palate presence very deep and clean with more stony fruits and a hint of flowers. very nice indeed. I would think for my palate this will be better in a year or so and live in a very happy place for several years. Lovely 89pts

Italian Tasting @ Wine Gallery: Lots of tropicana bananas at the start that blew off to reveal some leather, soil and fresh cherries. Alc heat shows but balanced with pretty plummish fruits. Inkish wine that needs some time to round off. Some floral scents in the mouth with nice cherries and plums.

A floral and cherry nose. Lots of earthy elements on the palate with roses and cherries. Not the usual sweet fruit that I generally find in a young Barbera, especially a recent 2006 Giacomo Conterno Cascina Francia. This is delicious and the one I will reach for when I want a Barbera as I let the Conterno age.

Really quite delicious. Good focus, no gobs, good purity. Seemed lean and streamlined. Great acidity. This and G. Conterno’s are really the only Barbera I need.

The 03 version of this was off the charts, this is more restrained and compact but no less beguiling. Complex aromatics of meat, cherry, plum and iron. It is dense and possesses good weight yet beautifully proportioned in the mouth. It seems to get deeper and darker in the glass and finishes with pronounced liquorice and dark earth flavours. It too is beautifully crunchy thanks to some breezy acidity.

Very enjoyable wine. Smell of earth and leather. Good acid og nice fruits in the mouth. Decanted for 1 hour. Pricey for a Barbera, but will buy more. I like it!
