Burgundy Dinner with Friends (S.K.Y. Restaurant - Chicago IL): Plenty of ripe apple and pear with excellent concentration, just slightly more advanced vs my last bottle from 2 years ago. Still very enjoyable, but probably best to enjoy over the next few years.

Blind White Burgs - Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet (Acadia): 2006 Ramonet flight. Medium-full nose is initially more closed in but opens with 15-30 minutes in the glass. Aromas of rich white fruit with mint that becomes more and more pronounced. Richer and bigger with less acid freshness than the other wines in the flight. Creamy, concentrated and enjoyable to drink. Minty notes come out in the finish.

HDH auction tasting at Tru (Chicago, IL): This is a heavier Ramonet, and interestingly didn't show as well as the 2003 that I had a week or two ago (albeit from a different vineyard too). There's a touch of botrytis on the nose and palate, and tons of ripeness. This is missing a bit of the cut I like in white Burgundy but there's no denying this is one of impeccable pedigree.

Ripe tropical fruit on the nose. No Ramonet kind of nuts in its chassagne probably due to the vintage. The palate was rich and intense without too much layer. This bottle was much better than the 06 Morgeot.

A birthday celebration (EL Ideas - Chicago IL): Lots of ripe apple and pear with a rich, unctuous texture and hints of spice. Rich and very forward, very fun, but a little simple on finish.

Great intensity and weight. Lively flavors of honey, lemon, minerals. Interestingly drank half of it the first night and it was a bit austere. After one day in the fridge, drank beautifully the second night.

Light yellow in color, very fresh citrus fruit, medium bodied and overall very mineral driven which is very nice, medium to long finish only slightly off balance which is the vintage characteristic of 06, slightly too ripe so better served a bit cooler.

Stewy and lacking precision or acidity, sickly sweet and thoroughly unpleasant wine to me. Classic class of the problem with the 2006 vintage in whites. BH was totally wrong on this one.

Noel Ramonet seems to be able to coax maximum flavour from the Chardonnay grape and this is case in point. Loaded with ripe orchard fruits, preserved lemon and smoky minerals, this thing certainly awakens then throttles the senses. It is rich, heady and textured with a power packed, exotic fruit punch. There’s a flash of minerals that streak across the palate keeping all the rambunctious fruits in check.

Excellent purity by the standards of the '06 vintage, or of any vintage really. No sign at all of the fatness that plagues many. Instead the fruit is pale and restrained while still retaining a plush and enveloping texture. A dusting of chalk and a flintines add complexity but this is really about the whole package, as textbook a white Burgundy as you could ever find.

There’s almost a touch of 1992 to many of these 06 white’s and I guess if this ‘Ruchottes’ eventually turns out like the 92 I’ll be pleased as it’s a ‘belter’. Expressive, exotic notes of honeysuckle, ripe peach, spearmint, aniseed and some rockmelon work well with a little light toast from the oak. There’s waves of high glycerol fruit lapping around the gums and once swallowed and the oiliness subsides some chalky minerality is revealed. There’s big volume in the mouth and outstanding length, it is a largely proportioned Chassagne that should age well.

Blind White Dinner: Top Producers' Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet (Acadia - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind. Another wine that keeps getting better. Rich apple and pear with slightly sweet spice. Very good balance and nearly showing Grand Cru concentration. Stood up wonderfully to the Grand Crus.

Blind White Tasting: Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Grandes Ruchottes (The Blanchard - Chicago IL): Served blind in 04/06 Ruchottes flight. Started with ripe stone fruit, baked apple and slightly sweet spice. Clearly ripe but well balanced. Gradual, slow fade started once open an hour+. Best 10-30 minutes after popped-and-poured.
