Some orange tints on the edge, showing a bit of age. Juice is still alive though. Plenty of fruit to support the earthy, green veggie notes. Pretty delicious overall, but perhaps not the greatest value given what I paid for it back in the day.

I did another tasting across the four vintages I have 2005 #1 Rolland, 2006 #2 Dubourdieu, 2007 #3 Franchetti and 2008 #4 Derenoncourt. Apparently there is a #5 for 2010 but I've never seen it and I see no TNs. These are more interesting than my first tasting. The vintages are showing more than the winegrowers. And the better vintages are tasting better, with another couple of years than the poorer vintages. In the #1 was the best with a 92, #4 was next with a 90 and #3 and #4 not showing well with an 86. The #1 was now a good tasting bordeaux, well rounded out, good to drink with a hint of complexity. The #4 was more racy and interesting, also tasting as good as I think it ever will. The #2 and #3 were just not interesting. I'm surprised by the #2. I thought it would show better. Anyway, interesting experiment and I have one more set to try in a few years.
Not much more to add to my previous notes. I used a cup of this to make pot roast and my wife and I drank the rest of the bottle with dinner. This is classically styled Bordeaux from a terroir driven vintage. Perhaps lacking concentration but overall a pleasant glass of wine.

I did a vertical tasting of the #1 Rolland, #2 Dubourdieu, #3 Franchetti and #4 Derenoncourt. These are all winemakers / consultants who are renowned and they went across some very good vintages - 2005, 2006. So the fact that these wines are disappointing I presume points to the terroir. The whole experiment was to see the winemaking styles and they were surprisingly similar. The Rolland seemed the fullest, the Franchetti the lightest (but most integrated), and the Derenoncourt and the Dubourdies very similar. In general, not a great bordeaux wine, but more a well made cab with blue fruit and a short finish.

We bought this because we thought that anyone who had the brass to put their own picture on a bottle of wine looking cool and wearing trendy glasses would be darn sure the wine represented their taste in wine and it should be a real catch, an up and comer. If this is that then we recommend changing the picture. A very boring wine, although by no means bad.
Sad thing is, we checked Cellar Tracker first and decided to tread the path alone. CT friends were spot on. Shame on us.

This bottle was less exciting that my first bottle. Popped and poured and best upon opening. Cedar and plum notes. Lacking depth and density for the long haul. Drink now.

Fantastic classic bordeaux nose: cedar, plum, earth. Solid on the palate. On the earthy side with hints of dark fruit. It's just a touch hollow and lacking richness. I'm sure the raw materials weren't the greatest given the vintage. This certainly deliver great value for the $15 I paid at auction. Great mid week drinker.

Popped and poured, beautiful earthy Bordeaux nose, more fruit then I remember on the palate along with a touch of spice. The wine is nicely balance with a long finish. I wasn't expecting this to get better after my last bottle but it has.

Decided to decant this bottle before dinner but may have lost some fruit in the process. Well made, balanced with old world finesse from start to finish. Nothing overpowering but was lacking a little fruit on the palate. Great for $10.

Popped and poured this bottle. This is good QPR for a Bordeaux of this quality. This one still has a ways to go as it got better with more air. Spicy dark red fruit on the nose along with a hint of earthy goodness. Nothing overpowering on the palate. The tannins are still there with a dry finish of moderate length. When I bought this it was suggested to drink right away but I'm thinking it will be even better in a year or two.

88+. I didn't love this acidic red night 1, but it was really nice Night 2 with great berry fruit coming forward along with some nice spice and great balance. Unexpectedly good night 2. Went from 86 to 88-89.

Blind tasted on this and I was stumped. It was pop and poured. This was showing dark berries and pepper on the nose, but was subtle, with a little bit of leather. On the palate, I got drying tannins, dark fruit, a touch of pepper and some alcohol heat. My guess a way off base cool climate new world syrah. Ah well.
Interestingly this bottle had a new world tilt on the nose and mouth to me with some alcohol poking through on the finish. Not bad, just less balanced and complete than the previous bottle. The second glass was improved, perhaps the airtime was beneficial.

86-87. This one wasn't quite as good. Maybe a bit better with air. This is somewhat tannic, a little musty. Red fruit with some decent acidity, and light to medium bodied. Not overly complex.

This was a nice surprise. Decanted for about 30 min, this had much more weight than I expected. The nose is showing cassis and blackberry fruit, with touches of cedar, vanilla and underbrush. Nice depth on the nose as I expected with the vintage that this would be less dense. On the palate it lacks a little concentration, but is already drinking well with a tannic structure that points to a decent lifespan ahead (I can see this making age 10 gracefully, but not much more). Nice finish that shows some tannin, but finishes cleanly with good acidity. A nice bottle of 2007 Bordeaux for its pedigree. It lacks some stuffing and is a little rough around the edges, but is a nice value if you can catch it on clearance.

Really interesting wine. I wouldn't pick this as a cab based bordeaux blind certainly. Light bodied with lots of beautiful sour cherry along with some earthy undertones. Not particularly complex, but elegant and interesting. More like a sangovese or supertuscan than a bordeaux. Franchetti didn't have the vintage material to work with of the prior stellar vintage, but still a well balanced wine in a poor vintage. If you are looking for power, ripeness and fruit bombs with extract, I would look elsewhere. This won't age for more than 2-3 years.

Cellaraid - A Beef Odyssey - Coonawara Wine Dinner (Garang Grill): deep garnet; quite acidic and tannic; blackberry, grassy, smoky; luckily tasted blind so that the horrid label did not get in the way...

Cellaraid Vintage Wine Tasting at Delicacy FNWM (Delicacy Food & Wine Merchants): unfortunately I did not like this at all. wine was way too spicy. the label felt like a cheap Godfather spinoff. rather sad that a Bordeaux winemaker had resorted into such gimmicks. needs a serious rethink...
