This was either a bit over the hill, or perhaps heat damaged. It’s also 15.2 abv, so maybe the stewed / pruny character is just what becomes of high alcohol, 17 year old Zin? In any event, there is still some interest here but I would drink up.

Popped and poured. Nice aged Zin with some life left. Aromas of deep red cherry, stewed fruit and dark red plums. Straightforward in the mouth with red berries and some good depth. Nothing to geek-out over but a typically solid Ridge Zin. Perfect for a Monday night.

Drank well past its prime but still very drinkable. Stored perfectly since release. Big ripe plums on the nose and palate. Held up well on the second night.

Ripe, sweet smelling bramble berry fruits and prunes. Tannins and acids on the palate as the fruit is starting to fall away. Finish is a little heavy. 15.2% alcohol, this big old fashioned Zin has calmed down and entered a clumsy phase.

Still quite good, but a bit past it's prime. Needed lots of open time, in fact the 2nd day was maybe better. Yes, no more tannins, but with the right food - still great.

A bit past prime but still delicious, with all your typical Ridge zin-ness. Tannins aren't quite strong enough for me anymore to make this a meaty zin, but like I said, still very tasty, drink up!

Popped and poured. Transparent ruby. Nose smells a bit like ripe Zin fruit. Rich and soft. Acids are still present. Pretty nice. Long finish. Just a tad sur maturite for my taste.

Also July 4. This was the best of the bunch and it is amazing how well this wine has grown up. The last time we had it was upon release and I remember it being a powerful wine with a lot of fruit. It still has that lingering in the background, but now it has a nice oak component that I do not remember from before. Some light spice, but for the most part, it is the best of what Ridge does with zin.

Moderate crimson color, looks lighter than it tastes but plenty to like as a solid, appropriately ripe zin. Raspberry nose, no VA or overt raisin notes, with just a hint of wood. Flavors are pleasantly ripe but on the lean side. Raspberry, black pepper, moderate tannin. A very good wine although it does have just a bit of generic feel to it. Not really of place.

Really nice, fresh wine. Nice flavors of red berry, orange peel, zinberry, asian spice. Faded red-purple (no browning) with a nose of smoke, wood and cranberry. Plenty of tannins but fine and well integrated and nice acidity to keep it interesting. I like it.

Initially a little bandaidy nose but quickly blows off and is a great match for chili dinner. Nice new/old world nose with plenty of fruit and earthly delights. Palate is full bodied and very smooth and interesting.

Since this wine is 100% Zinfandel, I don't think it will age like most Ridge Zins do with the Petite Sirah blended in to give it some structure. This wine is a gorgeous purply red. Transparent at the rim. Muted Zin fruit nose with a whiff of vanilla. Initial attack is subdued, mid palate gives you an explosion of Sonoma Zin fruit mostly boysenberry/blackberry. The wine seems soft initially, but on the back end the tannins kick in. Some oak overtones, but not offensive. Long finish. Pretty big wine.

Liked a bit more two years ago. Cranberry has popped up. Very nice. I am beginning to like my zins younger rather than gambling and not liking the results as much; but the ones that age well are so well. And, Ridge is the king for the best of aging zins.

Deep red color with a little bricking at the rim. Brooding zin-berry nose with some jammy overtones bordering on cooked berry pie filling. On the palate, this is round, lush and fruity with zin-berry, spice, and berry cobbler. There's not much acid on the finish and this does not appear to be destined for the ages. Drink up.

Had quite a bit of earth/dirt taste at beginning. Blew off after a 1/2 hour (did not decant). Opened up to a beautiful wine; big cherry/berry and complex. Wait atleast another year for the next one. Surprisingly good.

Work from home day - to get new glasses. Nice wine, could evolve further. Will wait on the final bottle. Alot of cherry to my taste. Chicken and pork from the grill.
