I opened my last bottle of this (I have one 2007 vintage remaining.) Dark berries, chocolate and mint on the nose and palate; ripe and rich. You can feel a little heat from the high alcohol percentage. Lots of peppery spice.

Sparky and Sarah Marquis winemakers. Imported by Grateful Palate. 63% Shiraz, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon. 15.5% alcohol by volume. Some broken bits of cork and slight sediment issues. Deep purple color, opaque, viscous. Scents of dark berries and coffee or mocha. Tastes sweet from ripe, extracted fruit and a bit hot from the alcohol. I preferred this on the third evening--perhaps due to my mood or just growing accustomed to the ripeness of the fruit and the boldness of the alcohol. It's a good example of the Marquis-Philips style from the early days of the partnership with Grateful Palate's Dan Philips and will have appeal for those who like bold, ripe reds. I don't buy much in this style any more but will either consume or share with others my remaining bottle.

Apparently from the hands of Sparky & Sarah Marquis, of Mollydooker fame, this Padthaway blend comes in with an impressive 91 Robert Parker points. Now with almost 10 years of bottle age, it's showing remarkably well. Made from a blend of 66% Shiraz and 34% Cabernet Sauvignon the nose shows intense blackcurrant, bramble and toasty oak characters. The palate is full bodied, still displaying dark berry fruit and just a touch of pepper. It seems to have come together really well and seems like it has many more years in it!

Good Cab-Shiraz blend, that's certainly not going to convert anyone who dislikes this style. Perhaps not as classy as FDR1A an its ilk, but well balanced, a little sweet and good whiff on damson on the nose without the baked characteristics you can get from this level of ripeness... Need to decant, this has more sediment that almost anything I have every drunk.

Time in the bottle has mellowed this somewhat. Very ripe, the cabernet is undetectable. Some nice secondary truffle notes have developed. Overall a meh...

a super showing. very tiff to put down I think the tannins of the Cab tame the glycerin of the Shiraz and blend very well together. Still a touch of wood showing.

Opened to celebrate the youngest heading off to college, decanted for about 40 minutes. On the nose getting a lot of intense fruit, lots of cherries with blackberry as well and a hint of vanilla. Mouth feel is very smooth and silky. On the front palate getting a lot of dark fruit and cherry with some pepper and a hint of licorice and mocha. The finish reveals some oak and nice tannins that fit well with the fruit. Cab and Shiraz combine well in this wine.

Lovely cherry flavours with hints of choclate/mocha. Way too much alchohol (it burns on the back end) which definitely detracts from the great fruit. The wine was much better with 1 hour's worth of air.

Dominated by coffee liqueur notes aromatically, then also brings little bits of earth and graphite in to prevent it from becoming a caricature. The oak hasn't dried out the palate; instead, it's round and even lush, without balance-destroying overt sweetness.

Best bottle of this I have had. the cab has integrated so well into this shiraz and added the perfect amount of structure and body, also less heat (alcohol) was detected on the finish. Hope it keeps drinking like this for awhile as I have a fwe more bottles. I beleive this had hit its prime drinking platform.

Once I managed to look at the back label I knew that I had picked a winner from the extensive (and expensive) wine list from Canlis in Seattle. Parson's Flat is a label from the fine folks who also run Henry's Drive, a personal favorite of ours as a result of a legendary winemakers dinner back in 2002 involving eight different Aussie and New Zealander vintners that The Grateful Palate sponsored down at the Union Square Grill.(I can assure you a riotously fine time was had by all!!) This 2002 blend is 63% Shiraz and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon. Upon opening a lovely bouquet of fruit with hints of mint, mocha and mushroom were on display. The wines tannins were fully integrated and it is drinking very, very smoothly. After about an hour the fruit began to drift away.

A nice nose of dark fruits and berries in a bit dry tannic back. I think the combination of the tannins with the heat of the alcohol detract from this being a much better wine. Wine is very well made, full bodied and the fruit is really first quality.

It does keep improving with time. Smooth soft tannins mask the alchohol, the shiraz and and the cab integrate nicely, berries and cassis dominate. Excellent bottle of wine. I wish I had more.

Well made, impressive wine; just not my style. Super-ripe, I'd say overripe. The heat betrays its high alcohol (15.5%). Dark cherry/jammy nose and palate, we drank it at cellar temperature without food, which was fine as this would overwhelm anything short of an aged pungent cheese.

I absolutely love this wine. I drank this bottle with a friend who brought the '98 Araujo and although a totally different style it totally outclassed the Araujo. The Parson's tastes like it's all shiraz rather than shiraz and cabernet. A beautiful wine.

This wine keeps improving with time, and seems that each bottle I open is better than the last. The 15.5% alc. is smoothed out by the dark berry, cassis flavors of this very tasty shiraz/cab blend.
