After nearly 40 years this fantastic dessert wine is finally coming around! Opaque dark chocolate brown in color, like dirty motor oil. It still possesses aromas of dark brown sugar and cinnamon spice. The palate has mellowed out a bit. It no longer tastes like viscous liquid brown sugar. While still rich and thick, it's lost some of the weight it once possessed and now has a smoother, more fluid feel in the mouth and displays more notes of ripe figs and raisins on the finish. It was great with some soft stinky cheese. Enjoy in moderation.

Looks like used motor oil in the glass. Lovely aromas of burnt caramel & toffee. Lovely flavors of sweet melted caramel that is lush & very vibrant. Anyone who likes tawny port needs to try these wines. Tasted double blind.

375 ml, 17% This has the appearance of thick black cough medicine, leaving a dark oak smear on the glass. There are licorice, sweet raisins and dandelion root on the nose. Sweet and very rich and syrupy on the palate, but there is a very nice streak of acidity too, which stops it being too heavy. In fact the acidity – which is a sort of grapey fresh acidity – really shows and almost dominates the finish. This is very interesting stuff and rather delicious.

This is something really special: thick, persistently and darkest brown in glass. Huge and massive like syrup with mouth-filling flavors of molasses, dried plum and coffee. The present acidity softens the overwhelming sweetness a bit. The finish is nearly endless, I've tasted the wine more than 5 minutes in my mouth... Very special and truly not for everyone.

This is fortified wine at its best... I thank Greg Piatigorski for turning me on to this. We opened this bottle maybe 3 months ago. .. sat in the fridge all this time with about 1/3 of the bottle...it is as gorgeous, viscous, mouth-coating, satisfying as the day I opened it. Molasses, burnt sugar.....An amazing sticky... one of the most memorable wines I have drunk.

Almost black in colour with yellow on the rim - a bit like motor oil... Very powerful nose of licorice and coffee, quite sweet with a long and powerful finish. Great stuff, and the only wine I know of that can stand up to an espresso.

($28) Amazing stuff. Raisins, figs, smoke?, maple syrup, molasses, thick and black. Long, concentrated. Touch of acidity at the finish. Astounding. Shows it's alcohol a bit.

Expresso colored. Spin in the glass and it is brown. Maple sap, raisin and very sweet. Good acidity. It'll last a century.

1996 Bordeaux Horizontal in Gusbo's honor (Pichon Lalande, Lynch Bages, Pichon Baron, Calon Segur, Sociando Mallet, Carruades de Lafite, Pavillon Rouge, 1990 Suduiraut & 1972 Don PX Toro Albala) (Monterrey, Mexico): Dark brown color. Exotic nose of molasses, cane sugar, dried figs and beehive. The viscocity of motor oil and a little cloying. Fullest body I've ever experienced in a wine. Very, very sweet, but showing high acidity as well. This is not for everyone, but was delicious to me.
