  • This wine continues to improve. Drank with barbecue chicken. The tannins have resolved into an earthy fruit and herb taste profile. Acid balance has improved. First bottle in '17 was mediocre at best. A bottle last year was good and this bottle was very good. Keeping my last bottle for at least an additional year.

  • Really pretty good and better than bottle I drank in 2017. PnP and drank with pan grilled silver salmon on a salad. Okay fruit, earthiness. Acidity a bit too much. Drink or hold.

  • This is my first of these and it was actually better than indications from other earlier cellar tracker notes. When first opened I would say this was an 85 with harsh edges and little fruit. It improved over the course of several hours to what I would rate an 88 with a bit more fruit peaking through and muting of some of the harsh edges. Still have three more bottles of this so-so wine.. Maybe (wishful thinking) additional age will benefit this wine.

  • Worse than last bottle. Little fruit and some metallic aftertaste. Not completely undrinkable but it seems to be really subpar to me.

  • nice clarity, medium to light weight. A little funk on the nose that went away after almost an hour in the glass. Some dried fruit. Seems to be missing any real substance. meduim finish. Saved some for day two, we'll see what happens!

  • Some red cherry fruit, but marred by an overtly metallic tone. The nose was also funky but in a bad way (as opposed to the nice Burgundy barnyard nose). I'm starting to think it is an issue with this bottling ...

  • Pop and poured. Clean (pure?), juicy and bright minerally red fruit, but a tad hollow and thin in the middle. Nice flavor profile and a good sense of balance ... just lacks any real oomph. 88.
Day 2 - Did not improve, and in fact picked up an odd metallic taste on the finish. 85

  • Dishwater / gout moisi-terreux on the nose and worse on the palate. Essentially, simply, rotten. Phooey.

  • Much more open than the bottle last year. Nice nose of earthy cherries. On the palete the fruit is quite precise with nice acidity, and was giving pleasure even after pouring as opposed to my last bottle which was very tight for a day. Not an overtly earthy wine (typical of Volnay?) but there are delicious minerals as well as weighty (but smooth) tannins. Finishes with a little more sour cola than I'd like, but overall this is a very nice wine with room to grow.

  • Day 2 Update: So after a night in the fridge, I no longer detect any TCAness to it. Another pinot I had recently went through the same arc, so now I'm wondering if I'm misattributing something else to TCA ... In any case, this wine now has lovely dense cherries with a hint of earth and noticeable minerality. Some very tight tannins on the back. I'd give this one another 3-4 years before trying another bottle. 89+
Day 3: Thinner and less tasty
