Popped and poured, in the glass a lively deep purple color with a translucent red rim with a saturated dark purple buildup on the cork. On the nose, a rather earthy essence and on the palate it became obvious that this wine is had earthy rather funky mushroom like taste and was very tight and acidic in the beginning. There was some eucalyptus, dark cherry, and a good amount of tannin, but the fruit was not as vibrant as I hoped it might be. Day 2 showed some improvement but at best, I would call this a good wine at best. 89-91 Points.

Opened the second and last of 2 magnums which were a recent auction buy. Nose of black cherry, black berry, cassis, and hints of red cherry fruit, more of the same on the palate, big body, seemed a richer tasting experience than the first magnum, lots of sediment on all sides of the bottle, delicious and elegant tasting, consumed over three evenings, it has peaked but will easily last 10 more years to go in magnum, incredible fruit with lots of black berry, black cherry and red cherry on the palate and finish, long, flavorful finish and aftertaste.

Opened one of 2 magnums which are recent auction purchases. Nose of black cherry, black berry, cassis, and SLD terroir, more of the same on the palate, big body, mouth filling fruit, lots of rich and ripe fruit to savor, has a quiet elegance to it, at its best but years to go, and long, long finish.

V2V tasting, which is the annual Stags Leap Appellation Celebration, at Baldacci of 4 vintages of Brenda's Vineyard fourth place. Nose of cassis, dusty clay, SLD terroir, more of the same on the palate, terrific tasting, lovely and rich tasting, will improve in two years to be even better, medium/big body, and medium/long finish.

This wine was part of a tasting flight in Chicago up against some fantastic wines and the group loved it. Wine showed well against stiff competition and I wished I could remember what I loved most about it. Nonetheless, an exceptional bottle.

Still taste the hints of cherry, still has plenty of tanin. Starting to lose fruit. Probably won't age a whole lot more without losing too much fruit. Drink over the next 3 years.

Opaque, deep red with a purple rim hinting at orange. Big nose of creamy cassis, touches of cherry. Loads of fruit in the mouth, a little vanilla, big and soft. After the swallow, the tannins kick in, velvety and mouth-coating. Decadent. Full-bodied, with enough tannin and acidity to balance it perfectly. Finishes very long.
Drinking quite well right now, orange hints on the rim inidcate that it's probably been good for a couple years. Should be good through 2019, so call it 2009-2019.

Nice, but not up to the 2004. Shows some herbal elements on the midpalate and eucalyptus on the finish. Has probably 4-5 years of peak drinking ahead.
