  • Shy at first, opened up after two hours to reveal damp earth, plums, and sour cherry

  • Based on the last note or two, I was afraid I would find this too modern, ripe and oaky, but that wasn't the case. The nose has a funky, earthy component that blows off with time. Darker toned fruits and spice. There is what I think is a little oak influence that shows as maybe coffee or dark chocolate, but I don't find it overpowering. The tannin is light and soft, and there is plenty of acidity. I enjoyed this wine and continue to find that the 05 vintage was pretty good and maybe under rated. I see no reason that this wine won't drink well for another 5, maybe 10 years.

  • During a matter of taste event, Brunello Masterclass. Medium garnet. Nose of dark and red fruit, forest floor, spices, oak. Better freshness than the flabby 2006 but the tannins lead to a drying finish. Quality of tannins questionable. Also this, not really convincing, not surprising if you try to handle a Sangiovese like a Bordeaux Merlot in the cellar...

  • Brilliant colour, dark core and slightly brown edge; after opening surprisingly closed, but opening very nicely over the next three days, blackberry, ash, violet and caramel; high minerality, fresh acidity and quite tannic; no need to hurry up, will improve over the next time.

  • Drank this at Burlamacco Ristorante today to celebrate a birthday with my buddies from the army days.

Reddish-brown in colour, not surprising considering this is a 9 year old bottle. Wine was a little tight upon opening, but opened up like a flower after decanting for an hour. Typical notes of sangiovese: cranberries, elderflower and prunes.

On the palate it is medium-bodied with a rather rustic finish. Loads of notes of ash and minerality gives the wine a classic, old world feel. Long, lingering finish with a tinge of bitterness towards the end. Nice, refreshing acidity which was consistent from the start to the finish.

  • A little on the lean side, with dried dark berry, lilac, vanilla character and a touch of toasted oak. Medium-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. (Drink 2011-2020) - JD90

  • Ultimate Parker in Singapore Mega-Tasting (The Fullerton Hotel, Singapore): Super young, very modern, with 70-80% going into new oak barrels, but really quite good for all that. Lovely nose for one thing. A bit plasticky at the edges, but with nice depths of plum and sweet cherries scents, some savoury meat, earth and hints of herb all layered over some oaky vanilla tones, Palate was marked by firm but fine tannins and clean acid giving the wine a nice balance. More Italian herbs here, along with high-toned, gummy cherry fruit. Maybe not displaying the depth and concentration of the great vintages, but all was very fresh, pure and rather deductive. The wine's youth showed itself most markedly on the finish, which had some drying tannins and a touch of woodiness. Should be an excellent wine in 6-8 years' time, but it does need a lot longer in the bottle.
