  • SBRAGIA!! This was opened tonight. Cork bleed through about 20% of the cork. Initially the nose was quite amazing, and really showed signs of herb and mature black fruit. The palate didn't match the nose. On the palate, initially there was a LOT of smoke, green herb and bitter tobacco, pungent finish which was rather "shroomy." But, the structure of this wine was rather good, with tannin just about 100% resolved. This wine improved SUBSTANTIALLY over the next hour. Front was blackberry, herb, black tea and fig. The middle still showed some tobacco and a bit of green pepper, but it was in check, and allowed the blackberry and black pepper to finish the job.

  • Quite good. Well balanced and full of flavour. Tannins resolved. Finish medium.

  • Consistent with prior review - Dark ruby color with cassis, tobacco, leather aromas. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, intense, and well balanced with sweet soft tannins. It shows cassis, black cherry, and slightly savory flavors. Long finish.

  • Great dinner wine enjoyed with salmon and veggies. I thought that this one could have been as near to a pop and pour as it could have been. Yeah, so I was wrong about that. Uncorked a wine that had an intact cork with about 3-4mm of bleed on an extended sized cork. The wine was decanted a dark red with some light chocolate undertones into decanter and was consumed (although not slowly) in about 60-90 minutes. Although you could, at first, taste the age of the wine, the fruit didn't show immediately. It took about 45 minutes of coaxing before that very dark, ripe blackberry started to emerge and took hold of the front. The mid-palate is where the age and some mocha and age started to show, with a hint of black pepper. The finish was spicier than I expected, and ironically enough was still quite tannic. This wine, overall, was quite a delight. Everything from the front to mid to finish was nice. Classic aged Napa cab. Not quite so elegant, but fruit, flavor, and age was well done....but I still think that due to the moderate amount of oak tannin on the finish this one cann still last another 4-5 years if cellared properly.

  • This wine is in the wheelhouse right now. If you have it, it's time. The cork was removed with about 1mm of bleed all around. The nose right out of the bottle was strange and the half cocked eyebrow ensued. Decanted, left for 30 minutes, and tried again. This time the copper and cumin notes noted previously were gone. An aged blackberry and tobacco were left, and were quite pleasing. A slight aged note. On the palate is a medium to full bodied wine that was probably quite beastly about 2-3 yr ago, yet has softened in the last couple of years. Tobacco and herbs kind of dominate the middle, with aged blackberry and blueberry finishing it out, with some cinnamon baking spice and a slight bit of oaked character. This wine has integrated well, and I do believe this wine is better today than it was in 2005, but is probably not better than it was a couple of years ago. I will hang on to my other 2 bottles and see what I can get out of them. I believe this wine was probably a 93-94 at maturity, but just doesn't do it quite as much now...(although I wouldn't mind having a few others!). Drink now.

  • Mostly unremarkable. Little if any nose. A bit unbalanced with heavy tannins outweighing the fruit.

  • 87-88 pts max. Wine is a bit thin, consistent with 2000 cabernet's, a bit under ripe. Some nice flavors, but not overly complex and certainly not overly concentrated. Pretty good, but no more than that. Not nearly as good as the bancroft merlot of the same year, which is really good. The 2000 Cab's just didn't get ripe enough, 13.2%.

  • Very nice, med bodied, black cherry, plum skin, currant fruit....dry dusty tannin, graphite, leather, cocoa/cinnamon powder. Has a nice acidic "green streak" to it(olive/tobacco) that thins it out a bit against the oak and spice. Shows the mtn fruit...tasty wine that should have no problem with a few more years.

  • ($75) Napa-Noma, June 2006: Touch of pool water on the nose. Corky? Red berry. Better balance on the palate with this one. Still, just okay.

  • Exotic Thai spices and galanga nose with star anise and young cardomon. Bright red cherry on teh mid-palate with rather flat tanin and leather satchel notes. Could stand up to a bruiser of a meal like a blue cheese rib eye.
