The Last Hurrah; 4/7/2022-4/9/2022 (Seattle, Washington): From magnum. Decanted for 8 hours. This magnum came from our first visit to Quinta do Vesuvio in 2006 when we actually got into the lagars with the local Portuguese treaders and helped to foot-trod this wine. We all were offered magnums of the wine when it was bottled, and it has been quite a few years since I have tasted any of the magnums that our group were offered. I was really looking forward to seeing how this wine was progressing, as I still have magnums of this wine in my cellar. Dark purple in color, mostly opaque. Floral and fresh crushed blueberry notes on the nose. Some mocha, and great intensity of blue fruit on the palate - blueberry, boysenberry and black currant. There is an elegance to the mouthfeel, but that is backed by a fantastic structure. This wine could go for 50 more years (at least in magnum).

2016 Port Harvest Tour; 9/18/2016-9/25/2016 (Portugal): Impenetrable dark violet in color. Pine and black fruit notes on the nose. Extremely well-balanced, long finish. An outstanding wine with current drinkability and a long future ahead of it.

Quite cloudy, deep ruby. Powerfull port with nose of; pruns, raisins, Chocolate, Dark berries, blackcurrant, blueberries, dust and a mineral saltiness. On the palate its young and powefull, solid structure. A slight alcohol sting, fine grained tannins, Aromas lot alike on the nose with chocolate, raisins, heavy floral notes, some toffee, dark berries and a great mineral note. The wine is balanced, intens, long finish, concentration is solid and very complex and will become better with age. Its youthfull, powerfull and made for agening in my opinion. Drank with stilton, satisfying.

Dark purple in color. Still primary fruit on the nose - raspberry and some dark cherry. A hint of that classic, Vesuvio terroir and intensity. Great fruit, tannins and concentration of fruit on the palate, and a wonderful long finish. This wine was especially remarkable, as this was the wine the I helped to foot-trod on my first FTLOP trip in 2006. As I sipped this wine and shared with others on Christmas day, I recall with wonderful memories my dear friend Roy who opened up a new world of Port to me, and the wonderful friendships (especially all you Brits!) that I made on my inaugural trip to the Douro. Finally, I so appreciate all of the passion and devotion that all of the winemakers in the Douro put into the wines they produce.

Still early, but shows great potential. Too bad it was the only bottle.

Opened up dramatically after a 2 hour decant. Deep, rich and delicious. Will look for more of this as the QPR was great.
