This has hung on quite well, even adding a bit given the age. Still solid fruit, but the earthy tone is surprising given the price point. My last one; a good run.

im waiting to score, i just opened wine, slightly depressed cork , purple color, nose of sweet incense the palate ripe, has turned perfumed nose of dark berries and the palate is gracefully smooth full of ripe fruit with hints of oak on the finish that are both balanced and integrated blends nicely with the jam element present, this wine is at it's prime from what ive read of the reviews .

Very strong nose of grapefruit, maybe overwhelmingly... The flavors corresponded with the nose, lots of grapefruit, brandied cherries and a tad spicy and on the first day a bit bitter. After the second day, the bitterness left, but also all the flavors were a bit muted. Easier to drink and maybe a bit more enjoyable the second day. It definitely is a dark yet fruity wine.

color: medium purple; nose: blackberry x oak; taste: medium body, red fruit, hollow midpalate, slightly rough vegetal medium-length finish tasting of lots of pepper; overall: enjoyable (if slightly rough and rustic) everyday wine, probably pairs well with a beef stew or pork ragu, decent wine but not a knock-out, previous year's edition was tastier and lusher

Incredible nose, as noted in other notes. Black fruit, root beer, black pepper, licorice, tar, a hint of savory meat, and a funky kale note - such complexity. Flavors don't follow through for me, however - sweetish black fruit, tons of black pepper, licorice and smoky plastic (interesting), and sneaky tannins that build through a very nice peppery finish. Very good, and a fabulous qpr, but the sweetness put me off - just not my style.

Blind Wines with BBQ (Phil's place, Chicago IL): nose: polished and excellent tones of black fruits, anise, black cherry liqueur, smoke and bits of charcoal tones. Shows a cooler sense to it on the nose with darker tones and good fruit
taste: full bodied with good and gripping tannins along with excellent tones of black fruits, anise, black cherry liqueur and smokey tones. Nice depth with real nice dark fruit tones
overall: this also seemed like a cali syrah. This seemed more northern cali syrah as it was also lower in acidity too. The tannins were noticeable and impressive for a wine at this price along with the depth of fruit and tones

Nothing remarkable. Woodsy notes dominated over two nights but it wasn't the typical vanilla-y oak overtones. It was more resinous or piney. Pretty generic dark fruit and not much in the way of tannins or acidity. Decent juice for the price.

Poured through wine aerator ... Nice mouthfeel but muted fruit with way too much faux vanilla; sickly sweet and no real tannins to speak of. Overly soft and not at all Syrah-like, to my taste buds. ... Tried it based on the other reviews here (and the sub-$10 price) but couldn't stand more than a few sips of this one. Avoid!

Very consistent with th 2005, sporting aromas of woodsmoke and red plums that lead to notes of black fruit, roasted red pepper and toast, with some nuances of mincemeat and a generous helping of vanilla bean on the finish. Pure, complex and very well made for this price point (around $13 the bottle). Recommended.

Decanted an hour. Throughout, this is pretty evident to be from a slightly cooler climate and is quite enjoyable. Nose is of rich dark berry fruits, some earthen tones, and a touch of black woodsmoke. Medium-weight mouthfeel carries in those great, rich dark fruit flavors with hints of smoked herbs. Finishes pretty long, with good balance between fruit, smoke, tannins, and acid.
All in all, a great value and a great food wine. Went perfectly with fare at an Argentenian restaurant.

Outstanding wine for the price! The nose really burts out of the glass with darker than usual fruit. A kind of melange of fig paste, candied fruit, crushed violets, and Dr. Pepper along with plenty of licorice, fennel, rosemary, and other provencal herbs. Also some black pepper on the nose along with some earth, smoke, and a new leather whiff. The nose also carries along this very intriguing burnt rubber/plastic undertone, though not unpleasant. Very typical of high quality Chilean Syrah. Denotes dense mountain fruit. The palate, although not as interesting as the nose, is full, supple and generous with a sweet black fruit finish. Tannins and acidity are low but still hold together enough to provide structure. Alcohol is imperseptible and there is some residual sugar, although average for this international style. I can't talk this wine up enough as I had just had a 2006 Caymus Cabernet earlier which did not stand up to this humbly priced wine from a largely unknown region in Chile. As I sit and examine the nose of this wine it continues to evolve on me, revealing notes of cherry pie and dried red currants. This is truly an unbelievable wine at this price.

Great again--brooding red fruits, dark-toned palate with some flesh while the meat & roasted herb tones add interest. Pretty finish with good length.
This was bottle 3 of 5, and I'm in no rush to get to the last two.
