shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate the end of the work week. never had this vintage before. this is a better than average montepulciano d'abruzzo and one of the better efforts from zaccagnini. wish i had bought more. it is robust from the outset and builds with 15 minutes of air. very aromatic. lots of dark fruit. firm finish. still young. could probably even go another year.

Nice color, with nice aroma of fruit. very dry, used it for cooking a sauce then drank with dinner. two days later dryness lightened up and some good fruit came through

135 NOK

This one always delivers. And the hanging piece of vine worth half the price alone! Dark fruit, pleasant tannins and good mouthfeel. While drinking nicely now, it could use another year of age.

For a pizza wine this is a tad on the ponderous side for my taste. It's not overly alcoholic which is good, but it barely avoids a roasted edge while negotiating Parkerian gobs of red fruit. There's a slight medicinal quality which reminded me of Cheracol cough syrup, not my favorite gustatory memory of childhood, along with some leather and tobacco-like notes. I was looking for something I could drink on Sunday night with a bolognese, hoping vaguely that I wouldn't like it enough to drink more than I should following some fairly heavy hitting over the past few days. Mission accomplished.

A good value, this is an inky purple color, and reveals notes of black fruit and spice. A little flat on the midpalate, but appealing for $11.33 wholesale.

I buy this wine often, especially when entertaining large groups. It's inexpensive and everyone seems to enjoy it. It's semi-dry with aromas of bright red berries and herbs with juicy cherries and a hint of vanilla on the finish. Cheers!

Found the tast to be a bit off. Tart, not well balanced.

Dry with a birch bark finish. Slightly tobacco smoked palette in the finish. Needs a fatty cheese or meat to meld flavors.

Directly from bottle, with arugula/tomatoes pasta. A good pairing; the wine is not big, on dry side.

Decanted 2 hours; with meatballs. On the dry side, not fruit forward.

Always a hit at party time. Cost went up $2 per bottle for the 2005 vintage vs. 2004. It's well worth it (LOL) and is still under $15 per bottle!!!

Open and available fruit on the nose, but the taste is kind of skewed and metallic. Fruity in the middle, but finishes with a metallic tartness

Sweet tobacco, fruity and plumy. It is quite good. A nice introduction to what is going on in Montepulciano.
