My first amarone. This needed a lot of time. I'd used the coravin to extract a couple glasses out over the last year. The first time, the wine was a tannic beast. The tannins weren't unpleasant, but the only reading that I got was in the texture (& a hint of black fruit). This time around, I opened the bottle on Sunday, left it get 2+ hours of air. It wasn't nearly as tannic & some fruit was showing through, but it was out of sync. I recorked the bottled and put it in the fridge. The next day, after popping the cork and giving it a couple hours, it came around and had much better balance. There's still a black fruit core in here, though there started to be more nuances built around it as it got more and more air.

2 hour decant. Big, sweet, mouth filling Amarone. Fully resolved tannins. Lots of dark fruit and black cherry. Paired with a chilli (sic) for which it was more than a match. Suspect this could last many more years so no rush if you are lucky enough to have some but sadly my last bottle.

Dark ruby. Aromas of stewed plum, black cherry, dried earth, mushroom, a little bit spirity too. The palate has powerful flavours of rich black cherry, baked currants, earthy, mushroom, forest floor, integrated tannins and very long finish. A big wine but lovely balance.

Drank with Roast beef up at Mackerel Beach. Big and smooth. Tannins very subdued, but you can sense the 15.5% in the background. Chocolate, cassis, its probably nearing it's peak. Slight loss as had poor quality wine glasses.

Very impressed. Despite being 11 years old, still had a vibrancy to the fruit. Despite being nearly 15%, it was well balanced. Red fruits, with a core chocolate undercurrent. Had with ragu pasta. This could go another few years at least, so will need to extend the drinking window.

i guess I should have expected this excellent Amarone from 2004 to improve with some more cellar time. All filled with dates, figs plump raisins and plums. Some spices with thick viscosity velvet glove tannins with such a great mouthfeel from start to finish. The wine could easily hold the alcohol and more. Sad my bottles are gone now.

excellent amarone with violet florals, prunes and back cherry. silky tannin and nice acid backbone but really a smooth full bodied wine. I really need to drink more Amarone.

I drank this wine with dinner at Monica's in Boston's North End. Very nice Amarone. Great finish, ok boquet. I am relatively new to Amarone's and wish I started drinking them 20 years ago or so.

Dark ruby, nose quite reticent black fruit. Fresh red and black cherries, bright acidity, tannins still pronounced with a bit of spice on the finish. Still very youthful and fresh, needs time, this wine will only get better.

Very concentrated nose of ripe fruits, licorice, some chocolate. Dens palate, with succulent dens fruit, good finish and still plenty of tannins. Nice potential for over 4+ years. 92+

On the nose black fruit and cherry, some chocolate notes and minor white pepper. In the mouth there is plenty of structure from tannin and acidity supporting the cherry and bitter chocolate flavours

Munskänkarnas Månadsprovning Feb: Banana cake, deep blueberry nose with some spices and raisins. Lots and lots of tannins and high acidity. Surprisingly elegant. Didn't stand a chance to pick this blind - this is a very good example of more modern, fruit-forward, elegant Amarone. Not used to it but I like it.
