Deep gold color; Big nose of lychee nut, tangerine peel, roasted hazel nuts, cardamom and hint of allspice, underlying all is brioche, but not in a heavy way- unusually lively, kaleidoscopic nose; rich mature walnut/hazel nut flavors, light maple syrup tones, hint of caramel; acidity keeps the signs of early oxidation in check, light but long finish-30sec+. A dead ringer for Bienvenue Batard in all but the very best vintages where BB has more "heft". Definitely at it's peak, bottle variation playing a big role from now on....

14.2% alcohol. thick, creamy mouthfeel, mango and orange flavors. i believe it's a well made wine, but in the end, too much oak! never have i had a marcassin that was so ordinary. i can think of dozens of california chards with more complexity and nuance. blasphemy, but, almost undrinkable to me. even my wife, the quintessential chard consumer, found this wine to be over-oaked.

Great Cult Tasting: Big nose of tropical fruits, apples, lessy, and a lot of smoke. Big and muscular, with perhaps a bit too much oak for some people's taste. I though it was pretty impressive.

Lived up to reputation. While slightly passed its prime still a serious, intense wine. Smoky, citrusy, & hazel-nut. Rich.
