An interesting blue and red fruit nose upon opening quickly blew off. The underlying wine was a bit austere, but some smooth and still fairly pleasing. Best years are behind. Drink now.

A private lunch (Restaurant Epicure ***, Hotel Le Bristol, Paris): Silky and flowing, lifted aromatics, clearly reveals its proximity to Volnay, pure and elegant, light-bodied but with a wonderful inner balance and harmony, ripe blue fruit and a hint of sous-bois, very gentle tannins, bright acidity carries the long and layered finish. Made with great sensitivity from young vines in a light vintage. At peak.

The bottle pours a dark ruby color, somewhat magenta even, with long thick legs. On the nose, the wine is concentrated, powerful and tightly packed with jammy currants, blackberries, cherries, smoked meats, sous bois and burnt hay. On the palate, the wine demonstrates beautiful, velvety structure with very silky tannins. With time, the acidity starts to reveal itself too and provides a fresh backdrop behind a palate of jammy red fruits, macerated cherries, game, cigar box, and truffles. Finish is quite complex as the wine leaves a smoky trace towards the end. Quite a decent wine, but there are certain minor quibbles over alcohol strength, lack of minerality and overall balance. It certainly feels more like I am drinking a Kistler or Aubert, rather than a Comtes Lafon.

Medium+ red. Expressive red berry nose, mixed with crushed flowers, earth and a hint of sweet caramel, all amounting to an almost Volnay-esque perfume. Very juicy on the palate with acidic cut and silky tannins. Persistent, medium+ finish. Not particularly complex but very good for what it is. I left about half of the bottle for day two: The wine showed no signs of oxidation and the acidity was now fully integrated. Excellent now but will improve for another 2 - 3 years.

Typical 07 character pure terroir. 2008 and 2009 slightly better.

Un vin qui évolue très bien. Simple, mais d'une belle pureté. Grande buvabilité.
